Offering kids and parents an alternative to owning a real-life pet, the new Fantastic PetsTM video game from THQ Inc. (NASDAQ: THQI) combines augmented reality with the controller-free technology made possible by KinectTM for Xbox 360® for an incredible experience that brings virtual pets right into the home.
Available today in all major retailers nationwide, Fantastic Pets brings animals to life in a way unlike any other pet simulation game. Augmented reality technology makes it possible for players to see themselves in real time on the TV screen interacting with a pet they have created – as ordinary as a puppy or as whimsical as a dragon – that respond to their gesture and voice commands, similar to how they would interact with a real pet.
“Fantastic Pets is an amazing game that lets kids play with their virtual pets in a whole new way,” said Martin Good, THQ Executive Vice President, Kids, Family and Casual Division. “Kinect made it possible for us to be among the first to explore and develop an augmented reality game unlike any other. In this game, kids are able to see their pets come to life next to them on the TV screen as if they were real.”
As the first augmented reality game on Kinect for Xbox 360, Fantastic Pets provides an entirely different gaming experience for the family. Players start with four animals – dog, cat, horse and lizard – that can be morphed into imaginative creations from mystical unicorns to ferocious dragons. Once players have created their very own fantasy pet, they enter a world in which they can play with their pets through several mini-games that range from fetching, grooming, and feeding their pets to a series of mini-games that include popping piñatas, partaking in talent shows and many others.
Fantastic Pets, developed by Blitz Games, is rated E for everyone and is available at the suggested retail price of $49.99 in the U.S.

By Elizabeth White Deploying applications in hybrid cloud environments is hard work. Your team spends most of the time maintaining your infrastructure, configuring dev/test and production environments, and deploying applications across environments – which can be both time consuming and error prone. But what if you could automate provisioning and deployment to deliver error free environments faster? What could you do with your free time?Aug. 17, 2016 06:30 PM EDT Reads: 1,617 |

As good Venn diagrams always show it's the intersection areas that offer the sweet spot for trends and markets, and an especially potent one is the intersection of Cloud computing, with the blockchain and also digital identity, particularly when considered within contexts such as Digital Democracy.

As the title suggests one way to approach the ‘Platform Business Model' (described in detail in our library section), is to consider how it is being adapted for specific industry sectors, via Cloud-centric acronyms such as:
GaaP - Government as a Platform
BaaP - Banking as a Platform
TaaP - Telco as a Platform
Right off the bat, Newman advises that we should "think of microservices as a specific approach for SOA in the same way that XP or Scrum are specific approaches for Agile Software development". These analogies are very interesting because my expectation was that microservices is a pattern. So I might infer that microservices is a set of process techniques as opposed to an architectural approach. Y...
Although security is one of the most talked about topics in the IT channel today, there’s a widespread lack of education and awareness in the workplace. Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are welcoming more technology into their everyday environment, but the rapid development of this technology is also accompanied by changes in cybersecurity and Internet threats.
The First Law of Thermodynamics states, "energy can be changed from one form to another, but it cannot be created or destroyed." In a business context that can be interpreted to mean if energy is being used to resist change, then it is not available for making change. Change is difficult. The default mode for most organizations and people is to resist change. Blockbusters' own board resisted dig...
Ugh. I see so many organizations get so close to the goal line with Big Data, and then get sidelined by something that is not nearly as important to the business. It is easy to see how these organizations get distracted as they get near the Big Data goal line, because the average CIO and Line of Business executive are continually fighting battles. They are so busy fighting battles that they forget...
Application performance problems can be quite challenging to resolve and even more difficult to predict. In my role as Dynatrace Guardian Consultant - leading the implementation of APM best practices with our customers - I've experienced quite a few "head-scratcher" situations. In this blog, I'll relate a recent problem that had most of the IT department scrambling early one Monday morning.
When building DevOps or continuous delivery practices you can learn a great deal from others. What choices did they make, what practices did they put in place, and how did they connect the dots?

An organizational culture that prioritizes coordinated response to incidents is vital for monitoring and managing an IT infrastructure. Incident management won’t go smoothly if teams don’t want to or know how to coordinate their response to alerts.
To break it down simply, a coordinated response in the IT world generally involves notifying the right people and mobilizing teams immediately, provid...
Imagine if every PhD dissertation resulted in something that changed the world?
That's what happened when Roy Fielding presented his doctoral dissertation on the "representational state transfer" at University of California-Irvine in 2000.

Data centers have seen a lot of change in a short time. It used to be possible for organizations to run their service from a single data center and house their Domain Name Service (DNS) servers within it. It wasn’t an issue to have them in the same place, since if the data center went down, the DNS servers wouldn’t be of any use.
Of course, things aren’t so simple now. Organizations use multiple...
I just had to write an Olympic-themed headline, since today is the first day of the 2016 Summer Games! I love the Olympics. It's so much fun watching athletes do what they're best at. Plus, they have the extra challenge this year of swimming or boating in polluted, mucky water-so it's even more impressive for the winners, I suppose. Technology is charging forward in sports, like everywhere else. N...

Every app developer dreams of the kind of success that Pokémon Go is enjoying right now. A month ago, it was just a rumor. Just 24 hours after it was released, it was the number one top grossing app, even though it was free to download and play. Within a single week, Pokémon Go servers were slammed with traffic from 21 million players while they tried to fix production errors.
Today it has 3X mor...
As IoT technologies attempt to live up to their promises to solve real-world problems and deliver consistent value for companies, there is still confusion among businesses on how to collect, store, and analyze a massive amount of IoT data generated from Internet-connected devices, both from industry and consumers, and unlock its value. Many businesses that are looking to collect and analyze IoT da...

The modern IT network encounters a lot of twists and turns on its way to high performance and user satisfaction. The humble network, which for a long time was fairly straightforward, is now a complicated infrastructure component that requires careful management and monitoring. Private and public network topologies are much more diverse these days, so that app delivery takes many twists and turns t...
