Personalized Data Input Portal and Online Patient Community to Be Launched at the World Congress of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity

IntraPace, Inc., the developer of the innovative abiliti® implantable obesity management system, announced today that it will launch its new lifestyle management portal and support network this week at the XVI World Congress of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) in Hamburg, Germany. A unique online resource, my.abiliti® allows its users to track personal eating and exercise performance, set and achieve goals, receive individual coaching, access educational resources and benefit from a valuable support network. They can also share personal experiences and achievements at their discretion with peers, friends and family, and experienced healthcare professionals.

The abiliti® system is a novel implantable device that uses proprietary eating event sensors to initiate gastric stimulation that helps patients feel full sooner than they otherwise would. Additionally, the device automatically records information on those eating and drinking events, as well as frequency and duration of exercise. The my.abiliti portal is the only online destination and community that can utilize objective behavioral data, collected and stored by the abiliti device and wirelessly retrieved with the connect.abiliti Wand. This accurate information enables intelligent weight loss management based on routine self monitoring.

“Several studies have shown that a strong support system is vital to the success for healthy long-term weight loss. Advanced technology that powers my.abiliti.com is able to deliver an unmatched level of support to its users,” stated Chuck Brynelsen, President & CEO of IntraPace. “We encourage all of our patients to join this online community so that they can exchange information, share their progress, and access the unique education and coaching provided by recognized weight management experts.”

IntraPace plans to offer individual booth demonstrations of my.abiliti during the IFSO 2011 congress. Over 2,000 leading obesity surgeons and allied health professionals from around the world are expected to attend the conference.

For more information about the abiliti system and a free demonstration of the my.abiliti weight management portal and social network, please visit IntraPace at IFSO. The IntraPace booth will be located at space number 24, Hall H, at the CCH – Congress Center Hamburg.

About the abiliti System

Following implantation via a simple minimally invasive surgical procedure, the abiliti system detects when a person eats or drinks and sends low-level electrical impulses to the stomach. This stimulation is intended to help a person feel full before the stomach is actually full, causing them to eat less. As the anatomy of the stomach and intestines is not changed, clinical experience with the abiliti system has shown virtually none of the nausea, diarrhea and other side effects seen with gastric bypass surgery and gastric banding. Patients are not restricted in the types of food that they consume, but are encouraged to adopt a healthy diet and exercise program.

Further, this novel system automatically records when a patient eats, drinks and exercises. Using a simple wireless connection, patients and physicians can view the consumption and exercise data. Access to this important information provides an enormous benefit as it allows physicians and patients to understand patient behaviors and develop effective strategies for maintained weight loss. Additionally, the system connects patients to a valuable social support network, which research has demonstrated can increase the effectiveness of weight loss programs.

About IntraPace

IntraPace was founded in 2001 to address an unmet need in weight loss surgery by developing a gentler solution for weight loss that incorporates essential components of behavior therapy. The abiliti system is intended to enable patients to achieve and sustain significant weight loss without the complications, lifestyle restrictions and substantial anatomical changes associated with the established weight loss surgeries.

Based in Mountain View, California, IntraPace is backed by premier investors, including Boston Scientific, CB Health Ventures, DFJ ePlanet Ventures, InCube Ventures, Johnson & Johnson Development Corp., L Capital Partners, Oxford Bioscience Partners, Toucan Capital Corp, Angels’ Forum, Halo Fund and Vulcan Capital.

The abiliti system has CE Mark in the European Union. It is not approved for sale in the United States. For more information, visit www.abiliti.com.

DevOps is under attack because developers don’t want to mess with infrastructure. They will happily own their code into production, but want to use platforms instead of raw automation. That’s changing the landscape that we understand as DevOps with both architecture concepts (CloudNative) and process redefinition (SRE). Rob Hirschfeld’s recent work in Kubernetes operations has led to the conclusion that containers and related platforms have changed the way we should be thinking about DevOps and...

The next XaaS is CICDaaS. Why? Because CICD saves developers a huge amount of time. CD is an especially great option for projects that require multiple and frequent contributions to be integrated. But… securing CICD best practices is an emerging, essential, yet little understood practice for DevOps teams and their Cloud Service Providers. The only way to get CICD to work in a highly secure environment takes collaboration, patience and persistence. Building CICD in the cloud requires rigorous ar...
Companies are harnessing data in ways we once associated with science fiction. Analysts have access to a plethora of visualization and reporting tools, but considering the vast amount of data businesses collect and limitations of CPUs, end users are forced to design their structures and systems with limitations. Until now. As the cloud toolkit to analyze data has evolved, GPUs have stepped in to massively parallel SQL, visualization and machine learning.

To get the most out of their data, successful companies are not focusing on queries and data lakes, they are actively integrating analytics into their operations with a data-first application development approach. Large industrial manufacturing organizations are adopting the agile principles of cloud software companies. The industrial manufacturing development process has not scaled over time. Enterprises are adopting Kubernetes to accelerate the development and the delivery of cloud-native applications. However, sharing a Kubernetes cluster between members of the same team can be challenging. And, sharing clusters across multiple teams is even harder. Kubernetes offers several constructs to help implement segmentation and isolation. However, these primitives can be complex to understand and apply. As a result, it’s becoming common for enterprises to end up with several clusters. Thi...
