Catalog Spree Planting 25,000 Trees for 25,000 Downloads to Aid Reforestation Efforts

Catalog Spree, the highest-rated catalog shopping app for the iPad®, today announces a new partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation to raise awareness around catalog consumption in the U.S. and its impact on the environment. In honor of Earth Month, Catalog Spree will plant one tree for every download of the app during the month of April – up to 25,000 trees – to help the Arbor Day Foundation reforest Pike National Forest in Colorado.

Approximately 53 million trees are cut down annually to produce the 3.6 million tons of paper required for the 19 billion catalogs mailed in the U.S. each year (source: catalogchoice.org). For consumers, tablets offer a way to enjoy sustainable and immediate access to digital catalogs. For retailers, there’s an economic incentive to going green as digital catalogs save costs related to paper, printing and postage.

“Both Catalog Spree and the Arbor Day Foundation are committed to saving trees and promoting reforestation through responsible consumer behavior. Our partnership and the 25,000 trees initiative is a natural fit for everyone involved,” said Joaquin Ruiz, CEO of Catalog Spree. “Downloading our top-rated free shopping app in April is an easy way for consumers to help plant a tree and start living a greener lifestyle by browsing catalogs on their iPads.”

“Catalog Spree is already saving trees by offering its innovative catalog app in place of the traditional printed material,” said Dan Lambe, Vice President of Programs for the Arbor Day Foundation. “We’re glad to be working with them on going a step further by planting a new tree for every catalog app downloaded.”

Catalog Spree’s iPad app allows you to browse, discover and engage with the touch of a finger and now boasts more than 200 catalogs, including Neiman Marcus, Sears, jcpenney, Lowe’s, Merrell, American Girl, and Hanna Andersson, with many more added every day.

With more consumers making lifestyle changes to go greener and save money, Catalog Spree is the leader in providing a more social, addictive, eco-friendly and fun way to shop. Through the partnership with Arbor Day, Catalog Spree joins other groups that are making a difference in the recovery of Pike National Forest, a diverse landscape where planting of more than 140,000 ponderosa pine and Douglas fir trees will begin this year.

In June 2002, the Hayman fire burned approximately 137,000 acres – the largest fire in Colorado’s history. In moderate and high intensity burn areas, 100% of the trees were lost – and, along with them, future seed sources for natural regeneration. Data is an unusual currency; it is not restricted by the same transactional limitations as money or people. In fact, the more that you leverage your data across multiple business use cases, the more valuable it becomes to the organization. And the same can be said about the organization’s analytics. The explosion of new web/cloud/IoT-based applications and the data they generate are transforming our world right before our eyes. DevOps is often described as a combination of technology and culture. Without both, DevOps isn't complete. However, applying the culture to outdated technology is a recipe for disaster; as response times grow and connections between teams are delayed by technology, the culture will die. A Nutanix Enterprise Cloud has many benefits that provide the needed base for a true DevOps paradigm.
