Uniregistry Partners With ISC for More Than 50 New gTLD Applications

GEORGE TOWN, GRAND CAYMAN, CAYMAN ISLANDS -- (Marketwire) -- 06/11/12 -- Uniregistry Corp., a new registry services company formed by Managing Director Frank Schilling and other established industry veterans, is pleased to announce that it has applied to ICANN to operate certain new top-level domains, expanding the world of registration opportunities for domain name registrants. Uniregistry's founders have a rich history of service to domain name registrants and have channeled their efforts and long-standing culture of service into this new venture.

Mr. Schilling has been passionate about naming since the first expansion of the domain name system in 2000: "For ten years, I've been waiting for a meaningful opportunity surrounding top-level domain names. Now that it's here, I'm proud to be making the names for the registrants of the future."

Uniregistry has partnered with Internet Systems Consortium, Inc. (ISC) to offer world-class infrastructure, technical excellence, and deep domain industry experience to registrants around the world for over fifty new top-level domains. Uniregistry's choice of top-level domains will better serve the Internet community by providing strong semantic ties between a registrant's interests or business and the selected domain name.

While serving registrants, users, and the broader Internet community, the team's shared vision is to:

  • Establish and execute against high technical standards for registry reliability, security, and stability;
  • Bring transparency and neutrality to all registry policies, rules, pricing, and processes;
  • Provide increased registration choices and functionality to registrants;
  • Research and enable technical achievements in the domain name system (DNS) to foster the development of new services and enhanced security; and
  • Put the domain name registrants' and end-users' interests in a secure, stable, and predictable service at the heart of all its efforts.

ISC, the world's preeminent expert in implementation and operation of DNS and related technologies, will perform registry operations for Uniregistry. ISC's domain name software is the reference standard against which all other domain name systems are measured. ISC has been a vanguard in the expansion of the Internet.

"ISC's Registry Services platform is enabling Uniregistry to set a very high standard for their registration policies and technical quality of a domain name registry," said Laura Hendriksen, Vice President of Business Operations at ISC.

ISC is one of the world's most important organizations entrusted to provide the Internet's essential infrastructures, deeply involved in the development of DNS, DNSSEC, IPv6, DHCP, and BIND. ISC operates the F-root server, one of the 13 root server complexes on the Internet. Since shortly after its founding in 1994, ISC has maintained 100% up-time for F-root and today the servers that implement F-root process approximately 25% of the Internet's root traffic. ISC has one of the world's largest operational deployments of DNSSEC.
