Wow! HostingCon Boston is already over. Three days in the sweltering summer heat of Boston filled with Cloud Flare rail guns, cPanel parties w/ the amazing Ralphie May, interviews with various members of The Whir and Hosting-Review.com and a lot of inside industry talk. To go over the whole event, let’s start with day one. (Side Note: If you want to check out our photos of the event, head click hosting for our Flickr account)

The first day of HostingCon was just like a first day back at school after a long summer break. It was filled with meeting old friends, talking shop with industry pals and conversing with company exec’s we hadn’t seen in a while. Moreover, like the first day of school, the first day of HostingCon was about seeing what everyone in the industry had been up to for the past few months. I have to admit one of the best parts of HostingCon was meandering from one booth to the next to see what cool giveaways each company brought with them and what their booth had to offer. With that in mind, I must admit, TrustWave brought the heat with some solid Atari games…

…and a Fooseball and Air Hockey table…

Following in TrustWave’s footsteps, our friends over at Better Linux bought a Ping Pong table with them (which, I won’t lie, the FortressITX team took full advantage of)…

…not to be outdone, the team over at MigrationWiz bought Superman with them and QR codes…

…At one point in time, our team engaged in an online bet with the guys over at BetterLinux concerning Ping Pong table and a friendly game of black jack:

@BetterLinux the@FortressITX team challenges you to best of 7 in Ping Pong. Winner takes the@Trustwave Atari games home.#hostingcon

@FortressITX@trustwave We see your challange and raise you to a SiteLock black jack game. Winner gets their tables. #SiteLock

@BetterLinux @Trustwave Sounds like you have a case of Cold War MAD. We raise u whoever wins, takes this guy home. ow.ly/i/Mn60

Who won that bet, well, that is an industry secret. After the sun set on day one of HostingCon, the FortressITX team, along with just about every other company in attendance, made their way over to the cPanel party at the Royale Boston. The post day one conference party featured some drinks, some laughs, an exciting meeting with Ben Fisher from The Hosting News and the comedic genius of Ralphie May. All in all, it was a good night and an overall great first day.

For the FortressITX team, the second day of HostingCon was all about getting back to our routes. FortressITX is the parent company of both SolarVPS and DedicatedNOW. SolarVPS provides the best possible VPS‘s available on the market today and DedicatedNOW provides industry leading dedicated server management. It’s correct to say that FortressITX is the best Cloud Integrator operating within the New York City metropolitan area however our roots are in hosting.

When our CEO Jason Silverglate began FortressITX back in 1997, the hosting industry, well the entire IT industry, was nothing like it is today. The concept of the Cloud was still to come and most companies were pushing the latest and greatest in hosting experiences. Coming to #hostingcon is so special to us because it reminds us where we come from. It reminds us how we began and where the path has taken us. #hostingcon is special for us because it confirms who we are and why we love doing what we do on a daily basis.

Alright, enough of the trip down memory lane. Day two @hostingcon saw FortressITX CEO speak with OnAPP CEO Ditlev Bredahl and with our old friend Christian Dawson. Both meetings were great. On the lighter side of things, on day two we took to car racing…

…who knows if we won or not.

After day two concluded, the FortressITX team headed out for some dinner and some drinks with industry friends. The night was full of talking to friends, speaking with clients and chatting about the latest and greatest in the hosting world right now. I won’t go into any further details about the evening however I can say, seeing the sun come up at 6 am with some of our industry friends was excellent.

For the last day of HostingCon, SolarVPS COO Ross Brouse met with Dave Price from the Hosting-Review.com. The two chatted about innovation in the hosting industry, how virtualized infrastructure benefits businesses of every size and the benefits of owning our own datacenter. All in all, it was a great conversation. Thanks Dave!

With the conference at an end, it would be unkind of me to not mention everyone from The Whir for all their hard work in putting on #hostingcon So, to Liam Eagle, Nicole Henderson, Leslie Boultbee and Justin Lee, we thank you for putting on the best hostingcon we have ever been to.

Also, thanks for the cool t-shirts.

A strange thing is happening along the way to the Internet of Things, namely far too many devices to work with and manage. You know you need the cloud, but you're hesitant to simply dump everything at Amazon since you know that not all workloads are suitable for cloud. You know that you want the kind of ease of use and scalability that you get with public cloud, but your applications are architected in a way that makes the public cloud a non-starter. You're looking at private cloud solutions based on hyperconverged infrastructure, but you're concerned with the limits inherent in those technologies. What do you do?
