GE Transportation Showcases Technology Leadership, Innovative Rail Solutions and Global Partnerships at InnoTrans 2012

The advanced technologies of GE Transportation (NYSE: GE), a world’s leading provider of innovative rail products and services are being showcased at InnoTrans 2012 from September 18 to 21. Hosted every two years, InnoTrans is the world’s largest rail exhibition and attracts approximately 100,000 attendees and 2,500 exhibitors worldwide.

PowerHaul Series Locomotive for Continental Europe

Delivering best-in-class haulage and fuel efficiency, the PowerHaul Series PH37ACai Locomotive has been adapted for cross-border operation in continental Europe and represents GE’s most technologically advanced, fuel-efficient and low-emissions diesel-electric locomotive to date. The groundbreaking PowerHaul Series PH37ACai Locomotive meets the latest TSI standards and demanding interoperability requirements for Europe and other regions that adopt such standards.

Tempo Train Control and Interlocking Solutions Portfolio

Developed to keep mass transit and mainline rail traffic moving smoothly, safely and efficiently, the Tempo range of ETCS (European Train Control System), CBTC (Communication Based Train Control) and computer based Interlocking solutions help rail operators streamline signaling project completion, decrease life-cycle cost and reduce energy consumption.

Designed around a common failsafe, scalable, hardware and software platform as well as an integrated suite of engineering tools, these solutions support operations ranging from high traffic density urban lines or high-speed lines to regional ones with lower traffic. The first Tempo ETCS Solution implementation will take place onboard a PowerHaul Locomotive for 2013 revenue service in countries of the European Union.

Global Locomotive Partnerships

GE Transportation continues to build regional and global partnerships to support its customer reach and growth. As a global provider to the rail industry, GE is meeting customers’ regional requirements by designing and manufacturing customized locomotives in the regions where they operate, while maintaining those regions’ manufacturing capabilities and strengthening their economies.

The PowerHaul Series Locomotive demonstrates a flexible platform that has been adapted to meet local needs worldwide. Since its debut in the United Kingdom in 2009, the PowerHaul Series Locomotive has expanded its global presence through continental Europe, Asia, and Australia. For example, Freightliner Group Ltd. added the PowerHaul Series Locomotive to its fleet and introduced GE’s advanced technology to the UK market. This Class 70 locomotive has provided significant haulage benefits that can be used on many routes compared to other diesel models in its fleet. GE has partnered with UGL Limited in Australia and KORAIL in Korea. The new partnership with TULOMSAS in Turkey for the Northern Africa and Middle East regions will be highlighted trackside at G4/10 where the PowerHaul PH37ACai Locomotive will be displayed.

Expanded Optimization Solutions Business

With GE’s recent acquisition of RMI, a leading provider of transportation management software analytics, GE’s Optimization Solutions business has expanded its portfolio to include a host of sophisticated solutions that optimize operations, assets, networks and energy use, reduce operational expenses, increase productivity, expand capacity and reduce emissions. Software solutions that are featured at InnoTrans include:

  • RailConnectTM Transportation Management System - Helps manage railroad operations, eliminate manual processing, improve information flow, increase productivity, reduce costs and support a railroad’s daily operations.
  • RailDOCSTM Wayside Asset Management System - Advanced signal and communication asset management solution that allows railroad maintenance departments to plan, manage and optimize daily operations.
