WINCHESTER, Va., Nov. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- xDev Inc. has announced iXtreme via the crowd-funding site Kickstarter at over 50% discount to retail. iXtreme is an Adventure and Gaming Case for iPhone 4 and 5, something that is completely new to the i-market.
The specialized case features:
- A tough composite outer shell
- A shock-isolating inner liner
- Water- and dust-resistant sound portals
- An integrated three-point mounting system with one-finger release
- A 180° three-element wide-angle lens and lens guard
- And a viewing kickstand in the form of the iXtreme logo
The inner liner can be used as a daily-use case when the mounting features of the outer shell aren't required. The liner is also designed to hold the lens independent of the shell. The company is testing additional lenses that will be released at a later date.
iXtreme has been designed to be lightweight, rugged, protective, adaptable and mountable. It allows the use of the phone features while in the case, including the headphone jack. The international patent pending design creates tremendous mounting flexibility. The case allows an iPhone owner to use their phone as a mountable point of view (POV) camera. It also simulates the feeling of a traditional camcorder and serves as a gaming console steering wheel when using detachable handles called iX Grips. The product has been designed to work with GoPro® accessories and is highly adaptable to any mounting system.
This exciting product is being introduced via Kickstarter and is expect to ship to consumers in March, 2013. xDev plans to produce the product in the United States, which the founder sites it as a source of great pride and inspiration. The case will retail at $99, but the first production units will ship to Kickstarter backers at over 50% discount to retail including a pair of iX Grips, four of the company's 0° and 90° Adapters for GoPro°, and the iX Tripod Mount. This combination will allow users to mount the case to equipment they may already own or can easily acquire.
The company claims a cost-savings of up to 85% when comparing iXtreme to purpose-built POV cameras and protective phone cases. Although xDev has been developing and testing their own line of mounting accessories they felt it was more important to announce the case soon after the release of the iPhone 5 and allow time to test the accessories with the redesigned smartphone. The company is currently designing over a dozen accessories.
"Personally, I could never justify the cost of a purpose-built POV camera. While on a ski trip with some friends in January of 2011 I almost destroyed my iPhone while trying to capture video from my snowboard. After we returned home I tried to find a product to protect and mount my phone. It didn't exist, so I started designing one," said Matt Parrill, the product's creator and founder of xDev. "Since that time we have worked diligently on the product and also how to successfully manufacture in the USA. We decided to continue testing and refining while we awaited the release of the iPhone 5, and validating the adaptability of that design before announcing the product."
As a result of their efforts the products designers have created a product that will raise the bar on the smartphone case market. "The trend has been using our iPhones as cameras and camcorders, but the form factor make the phone difficult to handle in harsher environments where you may be wearing gloves, or need to hold the device for extended periods. When combined with the detachable iX Grips, iXtreme creates the sensation of using a camcorder. You can get your hands away from the lens and also elevate the screen above your hand. If you need both hands free, you can mount the case on your chest, helmet, bike, car, or practically any other surface. Today you can use any number of mounts that are available, or our iXtreme branded mounts in 2013. iXtreme is about inexpensively creating the ability to relive the epic moments that may otherwise be lost or forgotten. That's why we say relive epic."
He went on to say "We have been designing, engineering, testing, and filing intellectual property for nearly two years. iXtreme is great at sports, but I think the extra time has paid off in the form of a more feature-rich case that speaks to a broader market. You can strap it on and capture amazing wide-angle video of your excursions, or you can click in iX Grips and make 1080p HD video of a family gathering. All of this with or without the lens."

In the world of DevOps there are ‘known good practices’ – aka ‘patterns’ – and ‘known bad practices’ – aka ‘anti-patterns.' Many of these patterns and anti-patterns have been developed from real world experience, especially by the early adopters of DevOps theory; but many are more feasible in theory than in practice, especially for more recent entrants to the DevOps scene. In this power panel at @DevOpsSummit at 18th Cloud Expo, moderated by DevOps Conference Chair Andi Mann, panelists will dis...

See storage differently! Storage performance problems have only gotten worse and harder to solve as applications have become largely virtualized and moved to a cloud-based infrastructure. Storage performance in a virtualized environment is not just about IOPS, it is about how well that potential performance is guaranteed to individual VMs for these apps as the number of VMs keep going up real time. In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, Dhiraj Sehgal, in product and marketing at Tintri, will discu...

Up until last year, enterprises that were looking into cloud services usually undertook a long-term pilot with one of the large cloud providers, running test and dev workloads in the cloud. With cloud’s transition to mainstream adoption in 2015, and with enterprises migrating more and more workloads into the cloud and in between public and private environments, the single-provider approach must be revisited. In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, Yoav Mor, multi-cloud solution evangelist at Cloudy...

There is an ever-growing explosion of new devices that are connected to the Internet using “cloud” solutions. This rapid growth is creating a massive new demand for efficient access to data. And it’s not just about connecting to that data anymore. This new demand is bringing new issues and challenges and it is important for companies to scale for the coming growth. And with that scaling comes the need for greater security, gathering and data analysis, storage, connectivity and, of course, the...
