TMG co-CEO Jane Ottenberg was this year’s recipient of the Custom Content Council’s John Caldwell Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony in New York Monday evening. This prestigious award is presented to someone who has made significant contributions to the custom content industry through leadership and by successfully using custom media as a marketing channel and demonstrating a standard for work that exhibits excellence in custom content.

It’s almost impossible to measure Jane’s contribution to and influence on the industry. She started TMG Custom Media with her partner Richard Creighton in 1981 with one client and one magazine, long before “custom content” became a popular term. Today, TMG employs more than 100 people and serves more than 50 clients in its Washington, D.C., and New York City offices.
“Jane is the perfect example of someone motivated by passion, whose leadership has built and sustained a thriving company that continues to lead in the custom content space,” said Kate Ottenberg, TMG’s head of video, who presented Jane the award.
TMG is recognized by its clients and competitors as one of the country’s top custom content agencies because of its outstanding quality; strongly measured results in digital, print and social media; and unusually long-term relationships. Most of the clients who worked with TMG during its first year of business are still clients today.
“Jane has an incredible understanding of clients and content and an exceptional eye for design,” said TMG co-CEO Richard Creighton. “Today, she continues to energize client, employee and personal meetings in a way that engages all around her. It’s impossible not to like her, yet at the same time, she demands excellence and stretches her co-workers to produce their best,” Creighton continued. “On top of that, she has been an astute businesswoman, building financial returns for TMG’s clients and for the company itself.”

In a world where women and men are challenged to have it all, she has managed to be there for her family, TMG, its clients and numerous charitable organizations,” said Kate Ottenberg, who is Jane’s daughter, in her remarks.
“Looking back,” continued Kate Ottenberg, “I think Jane must have had some secret super-human strength to be this powerful, smart and savvy businesswoman by day, then rush home every evening to make a gourmet meal for four unsuspecting children, complete with music and votive candles—and then proceed to talk about their lives, sports, school, etc., all evening long.”
