Morningstar to Host 18th Annual Morningstar® Canadian Investment Awards and Gala

TORONTO, Nov. 21, 2012 /CNW/ - Morningstar Research Inc., a Canadian subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. (NASDAQ: MORN), will hold its 18th annual Morningstar® Canadian Investment Awards Gala on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto. The Morningstar Awards are designed to help investors identify the year's most exceptional funds and fund managers in Canada.

In Canada, the Morningstar Awards have a longstanding history of recognizing companies and individuals who have made a difference in the lives of investors through superior investment products, service, marketing, and education.

The analyst-driven Fund Manager of the Year awards recognize managers who have not only achieved impressive risk-adjusted returns, but have also been strong stewards of shareholder capital over the long term. Morningstar has added five new awards to the line-up: ETF Provider of the Year, Best Equity ETF, Best Fixed-Income ETF, Best Specialty Equity Fund, and Best Use of Technology. For the complete awards line-up, please visit www.investmentawards.com/awards.

"Being nominated for and winning a Morningstar Award is considered one of the highest honours in the country's investment industry. Each year, we look forward to recognizing and celebrating the industry's most outstanding achievements," said Scott Mackenzie, president and chief executive officer of Morningstar Research Inc. "This year's awards gala will be Canada's best yet, and we've expanded our awards line-up to reflect the growth of the ETF market in Canada. "

Peter Mansbridge, chief correspondent of CBC News & anchor of "The National," will emcee the awards dinner. The evening will start with a networking cocktail reception, followed by the awards dinner and an after-party celebrating the launch of the 2013 Canadian Investment Guide, published by Investment Executive. Guests can also look forward to a silent auction benefitting charitable beneficiary MusiCounts and a scotch tasting at the cocktail reception and after-party.

MusiCounts is a Canadian music-education charity associated with The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the organization behind the nationally televised JUNO Awards. MusiCount's mission is to provide students with access to comprehensive music programs in Canadian schools. For the third year in a row, the proceeds from all submission-based awards will be donated to MusiCounts.

The Morningstar Canadian Investment Awards and Gala attracts more than 500 guests annually. Individual tickets are $339 plus HST and range from $3,000-$4,500 plus HST for a table of 10. Full event details, including online ticket sales, are available at www.investmentawards.com.

Digital Transformation is the ultimate goal of cloud computing and related initiatives. The phrase is certainly not a precise one, and as subject to hand-waving and distortion as any high-falutin' terminology in the world of information technology. Yet it is an excellent choice of words to describe what enterprise IT—and by extension, organizations in general—should be working to achieve. Digital Transformation means: handling all the data types being found and created in the organizat...

He discussed from business and technical viewpoints what exactly they are, why we care, how they are different and in what ways, and the strategies for IT to tran...
The Software Defined Data Center (SDDC), which enables organizations to seamlessly run in a hybrid cloud model (public + private cloud), is here to stay. IDC estimates that the software-defined networking market will be valued at $3.7 billion by 2016. Security is a key component and benefit of the SDDC, and offers an opportunity to build security 'from the ground up' and weave it into the environment from day one. The Internet of Things is not only adding billions of sensors and billions of terabytes to the Internet. It is also forcing a fundamental change in the way we envision Information Technology. For the first time, more data is being created by devices at the edge of the Internet rather than from centralized systems. What does this mean for today's IT professional? In this Power Panel at @ThingsExpo, moderated by Conference Chair Roger Strukhoff, panelists addressed this very serious issue of pro...
With SaaS use rampant across organizations, how can IT departments track company data and maintain security? More and more departments are commissioning their own solutions and bypassing IT. A cloud environment is amorphous and powerful, allowing you to set up solutions for all of your user needs: document sharing and collaboration, mobile access, e-mail, even industry-specific applications. In his session at 16th Cloud Expo, Shawn Mills, President and a founder of Green House Data, discussed h...
Container technology is sending shock waves through the world of cloud computing. How do software owners track the usag...
