Clickatell’s New “Connect API” Allows Developers to Embed Customer-Configurable SMS Messaging Into Apps

Clickatell, a leading mobile messaging provider, today announced its new “Connect API” (application-programming interface) designed to allow software developers to easily embed short-message service (SMS), account creation and management functionality into their applications while keeping their customers in the application’s user interface.

The Connect API helps developers to get end users up and running with Clickatell’s global SMS messaging services with low friction for use in reminder, update or marketing services. Developers also avoid typical messaging reseller responsibilities and licensing as the billing for messaging is managed by Clickatell directly with the end user. Additionally, Clickatell alleviates support responsibilities for messaging services by handling all inquiries with the end users directly.

Through the XML-based Connect API, developers are able to embed the ability for an end user to register for a new Clickatell account, activate the account, configure an API for the account, manage the account, purchase credits for the account, purchase two way messaging capabilities and monitor account status.

“It is our goal to provide a reliable, simple solution for application developers to work with any system to set up and send messages throughout the Americas region,” said Bill Wolfe, Clickatell’s Chief Strategy Officer and EVP for Small and Medium Business. “We believe these new APIs address some of the biggest concerns for software developers and we’re excited to share this new offering with our customers.”

As the world’s largest online SMS mobile messaging service, Clickatell’s messaging gateway allows its customers to send messages to almost any mobile phone in the world across over 900 mobile networks in more than 220 countries and territories.

Clickatell already offers its Small Business API, designed to enable businesses around the world to get in touch with their customers in the Americas. It is a cost effective, fast and easy text messaging solution that offers flexible subscription options to suit business requirements. Clickatell’s easy-to-use messaging APIs are embedded in its Small Business API offer, giving customers immediate access to any mobile operator in the Americas region or in its Global SMS Gateway for worldwide coverage.

The Connect API is available now and is free for developers. For more information on Clickatell’s developer solutions, visit http://americas.clickatell.com/developer/.

What happens when the different parts of a vehicle become smarter than the vehicle itself? As we move toward the era of smart everything, hundreds of entities in a vehicle that communicate with each other, the vehicle and external systems create a need for identity orchestration so that all entities work as a conglomerate. In this strange new world where more and more power is drawn from business technology, companies are effectively straddling two paths on the road to innovation and transformation into digital enterprises. The first path is the heritage trail – with “legacy” technology forming the background. Here, extant technologies are transformed by core IT teams to provide more API-driven approaches. Legacy systems can restrict companies that are transitioning into digital enterprises. To truly become a lea...

Just over a week ago I received a long and loud sustained applause for a presentation I delivered at this year’s Cloud Expo in Santa Clara.
