Making Frugal a Family Holiday Tradition

InCharge Debt Solutions offers tips on how to have a frugal, yet fun holiday

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As each year comes to a close, retailers and credit counseling experts battle to convince consumers they have the formula for a happy holiday season.  One spends millions of advertising dollars contending that expensive presents and lavish celebrations are what makes holidays fun, while the other hits the airwaves with lists of ways to enjoy friends and family on a budget.

"History shows that Americans will add more than $2 billion to their credit card debt this holiday season, but this time of year doesn't have to be a 'budget-buster' to be enjoyed," said Etta Money, President of InCharge Debt Solutions.  "To prove the point, we released a holiday survival guide to having a frugal, yet fun holiday.  The guide includes our 101 tips to saving money during the holidays, as well as a holiday budget template and many other great ideas and tools."

For those who don't want to start 2013 off with credit card debt, InCharge has several tips for holiday revelers:

  1. Plan ahead – put together a holiday budget that includes gift purchases, travel, food, and decorations.  Stick to it and don't take more cash to the store than you planned.
  2. Shop online – lower prices, ability to shop around, free shipping, and delivery to the doorstep are all available without spending a dime on gasoline for the car.
  3. Create family traditions – hot chocolate and candy canes served by Mom or Dad dressed as a holiday character are inexpensive, yet fun and memorable ways to celebrate.
  4. Cut the list – consider paring your gift list down to those who are closest to you, and spend the time to write a sincere, handwritten message in a card for others.
  5. Travel on a budget – being flexible on departure/arrival times and dates, airports, layovers and stops can save hundreds of dollars on airfare, and shop early!

With more than 30 Kubernetes solutions in the marketplace, it's tempting to think Kubernetes and the vendor ecosystem has solved the problem of operationalizing containers at scale or of automatically managing the elasticity of the underlying infrastructure that these solutions need to be truly scalable. Far from it. There are at least six major pain points that companies experience when they try to deploy and run Kubernetes in their complex environments. In this presentation, the speaker will d...

When building large, cloud-based applications that operate at a high scale, it's important to maintain a high availability and resilience to failures. In order to do that, you must be tolerant of failures, even in light of failures in other areas of your application. "Fly two mistakes high" is an old adage in the radio control airplane hobby. It means, fly high enough so that if you make a mistake, you can continue flying with room to still make mistakes. In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, Le...

Through machine learning, buildings can optimize performance, reduce costs, and improve occupant comfort by ...
DevOps tends to focus on the relationship between Dev and Ops, putting an emphasis on the ops and application infrastructure. But that’s changing with microservices architectures.
