Orbitz iPhone App Inducted Into the App Store Hall of Fame

Joins elite list of 13 new apps recognized as best in the field

CHICAGO, Dec. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Like the rock and roll legends in Cleveland and the baseball superstars in Cooperstown, the Orbitz iPhone app is now officially in the Hall of Fame. Orbitz announced today that the Orbitz iPhone app has been inducted in the App Store Hall of Fame. Out of the more than 700,000 apps and games available on the App Store, the Orbitz Flights, Hotels, Cars for iPhone was selected this week as one of just 13 new iPhone app inductees into the App Store Hall of Fame.

Apple launched the Hall of Fame two years ago in order to showcase "the best of the best on the App Store." Since its debut in June 2012, the Orbitz Flights, Hotels, Cars for iPhone has maintained a 4.5 out of 5-star rating from consumers. The Orbitz Flights, Hotels and Cars app for iPhone is available for free from the App Store on iPhone® or iPod touch® or at: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/orbitz-flights-hotels-cars/id403546234.

"Whether you are a long-time iPhone user or hope to get one as a holiday gift, this Hall of Fame recognition confirms that the Orbitz app for iPhone is the go-to travel tool to have," said Chris Orton, president of Orbitz.com.

This year's 13 inductees join 35 other apps previously recognized by Apple.  The full list of new Hall of Fame inductee apps can be accessed on iTunes at: https://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewMultiRoom?cc=us&fcId=402496709

The Orbitz app for iPhone continues to prove that it is the best online travel booking app in the market. Induction into the App Store Hall of Fame is just the latest in a list of recent  accolades including:

  • TechNewsWorld's All Things Appy (December 2012): Orbitz iPhone app named number one iOS transportation app
  • Internet Retailer's Mobile 400 (October 2012): Orbitz.com's projected 2012 mobile sales place it as the highest ranked full-service travel company in mobile commerce
  • App Store Editors' Choice selection (June 2012): The Orbitz iPhone app was the only travel booking app ever selected for this distinction
