McCann Erickson Uses Send Word Now to Communicate With Employees During Hurricane Sandy

NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 01/28/13 -- Send Word Now, the leading worldwide provider of emergency notification and on-demand alerting and response services, announced today that global advertising agency network McCann Worldgroup used Send Word Now's notification platform to send out critical messages to employees in the New York area when Hurricane Sandy struck the northeastern United States in October of 2012.

On Sunday, October 28, 2012, as Hurricane Sandy was headed up the East Coast, the company used Send Word Now's alerting platform to send out an alert to over 600 McCann and McCann Worldgroup company employees. The message, which was transmitted to work and personal e-mail accounts as well as to landline and cellular phones, indicated the anticipated severity of the storm and let recipients know that the office would be closed the next day.

Over the course of the next week, the company used Send Word Now on a daily basis to let employees know how the company was responding to the storm. Although the office was closed until the following Monday, employees were allowed to come into the building after October 31st. Many McCann employees live in lower Manhattan and lost power during the storm. For them, having access to the office, which had internet and hot water, was critical.

"One of the biggest compliments that our leadership team got after the storm was that they communicated well," said Debbie Fried, VP Manager of Business Communication and Continuity at McCann Worldgroup. "All of our employees were happy that they didn't just receive an e-mail. They had a choice of how to receive the messages we sent them. For large organizations operating during a crisis, the type of instantaneous alerting that Send Word Now provides is incredibly useful."

More information about McCann Worldgroup's use of Send Word Now can be found here.

"We are very proud to have been able to support McCann Worldgroup's hurricane response efforts in this way," said Tony Schmitz, President and CEO of Send Word Now. "As a New York City-based company, we understand the devastation that was brought upon the region by Superstorm Sandy. While many businesses have returned to normal operations since then, the effects of the storm are still palpable. We will continue to do everything we can to help our customers maximize their recovery efforts during this difficult time."

In recent years, containers have taken the world by storm. Companies of all sizes and industries have realized the massive benefits of containers, such as unprecedented mobility, higher hardware utilization, and increased flexibility and agility; however, many containers today are non-persistent. Containers without persistence miss out on many benefits, and in many cases simply pass the responsibility of persistence onto other infrastructure, adding additional complexity.
