Texas Health Resources Receives National Award for Leadership, Innovation in Care Delivery

Texas Health Resources has received the 2013 Richard A. Norling Premier Alliance Excellence Award for its leadership in accelerating care quality and cost improvements among the nation’s largest collaborative network of health systems.

Texas Health is the sole winner among more than 2,700 of the nation’s leading hospitals that are members of the Premier healthcare alliance. The award honors the system that has advanced the alliance’s work the most during the past year through leadership and collaboration with other health systems.

“Texas Health has been a true partner since joining the alliance 15 years ago, setting care delivery standards and then sharing best practices and lessons learned to the benefit of communities nationwide,” said Premier President and CEO Susan DeVore. “They spearhead our efforts to leverage the power of collaboration to achieve higher quality, more cost-effective healthcare – a goal that could not be more appropriate or necessary at this time in our nation’s history.”

Owned by health systems, including Texas Health, Premier comprises nearly half of the country’s acute care hospitals and 90,000 non-acute care sites that work together to lead the movement to better, more affordable care. Premier’s leading purchasing network delivers more than $4 billion in annual savings each year. The alliance also aggregates and uses clinical, operational and financial information and technologies to drive evidence-based decisions that improve patient care and reduce costs.

Examples of Texas Health achievements as a member of the Premier alliance include:

  • Nine system hospitals are top performers in QUEST®: High Performing Hospitals, a national performance improvement collaborative with more than 350 participants. Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Azle was the only hospital to receive the 2012 QUEST Award for High-value Healthcare.
  • Top performance in the Premier Perinatal Safety Initiative, one of the nation’s largest and most sophisticated perinatal improvement initiatives reducing harm to babies and mothers, and lowering associated liability claims and pay-outs.
  • Texas Health hospitals have consistently been honored by Premier for superior supply chain performance and innovation. And they helped to develop Premier’s clinical, labor, supply chain and safety applications.
  • Texas Health is a founding member of American Excess Insurance Exchange, RRG, an alliance of systems that own and manage their excess professional and general liability insurance program that is managed by Premier Insurance Management Services.
  • System representatives serve on Premier committees that help lead alliance members in efforts to transform and improve healthcare.

“We value this honor and our collaboration with Premier,” said Douglas D. Hawthorne, FACHE, CEO of Texas Health Resources. “As Texas Health strives to transform the delivery of healthcare in North Texas, we treasure the ability to share our knowledge and experiences with nationally benchmarked health systems through our participation in the Premier alliance.”

One of the largest faith-based, nonprofit health systems in the United States, Texas Health includes 25 hospitals with more than 5,500 physicians with active staff privileges. In 2012, it was recognized by Hospitals & Health Networks as a 2012 Most Wired Innovator; and U.S. News and World Report named four Texas Health hospitals the “most connected” in the U.S., as well as to its Best Hospitals in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. The system was also named to IMS Health’s list of Top 100 Integrated Healthcare Networks.

The health system received the Norling Award on January 29, 2013, during Premier’s annual Governance Education Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz. Previous award winners include Bon Secours Health System Inc. and Banner Health.

IT organizations are moving to the cloud in hopes to approve efficiency, increase agility and save money. Migrating workloads might seem like a simple task, but what many businesses don’t realize is that application migration criteria differs across organizations, making it difficult for architects to arrive at an accurate TCO number. In his session at 21st Cloud Expo, Joe Kinsella, CTO of CloudHealth Technologies, will offer a systematic approach to understanding the TCO of a cloud application...
"With Digital Experience Monitoring what used to be a simple visit to a web page has exploded into app on phones, data from social media feeds, competitive benchmarking - these are all components that are only available because of some type of digital asset," explained Leo Vasiliou, Director of Web Performance Engineering at Catchpoint Systems, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at DevOps Summit at 20th Cloud Expo, held June 6-8, 2017, at the Javits Center in New York City, NY.

The goal of Continuous Testing is to shift testing left to find defects earlier and release software faster. This can be achieved by integrating a set of open source functional and performance testing tools in the early stages of your software delivery lifecycle. There is one process that binds all application delivery stages together into one well-orchestrated machine: Continuous Testing. Continuous Testing is the conveyer belt between the Software Factory and production stages. Artifacts are m...
When shopping for a new data processing platform for IoT solutions, many development teams want to be able to test-drive options before making a choice. Yet when evaluating an IoT solution, it’s simply not feasible to do so at scale with physical devices. Building a sensor simulator is the next best choice; however, generating a realistic simulation at very high TPS with ease of configurability is a formidable challenge. When dealing with multiple application or transport protocols, you would be...
Cloud resources, although available in abundance, are inherently volatile. For transactional computing, like ERP and most enterprise software, this is a challenge as transactional integrity and data fidelity is paramount – making it a challenge to create cloud native applications while relying on RDBMS. In his session at 21st Cloud Expo, Claus Jepsen, Chief Architect and Head of Innovation Labs at Unit4, will explore that in order to create distributed and scalable solutions ensuring high availa...

In IT, we sometimes coin terms for things before we know exactly what they are and how they’ll be used. The resulting terms may capture a common set of aspirations and goals – as “cloud” did broadly for on-demand, self-service, and flexible computing. But such a term can also lump together diverse and even competing practices, technologies, and priorities to the point where important distinctions are glossed over and lost.
Internet-of-Things discussions can end up either going down the consumer gadget rabbit hole or focused on the sort of data logging that industrial manufacturers have been doing forever. However, in fact, companies today are already using IoT data both to optimize their operational technology and to improve the experience of customer interactions in novel ways. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Gordon Haff, Red Hat Technology Evangelist, shared examples from a wide range of industries – including en...
Detecting internal user threats in the Big Data eco-system is challenging and cumbersome. Many organizations monitor internal usage of the Big Data eco-system using a set of alerts. This is not a scalable process given the increase in the number of alerts with the accelerating growth in data volume and user base. Organizations are increasingly leveraging machine learning to monitor only those data elements that are sensitive and critical, autonomously establish monitoring policies, and to detect...
