Poor Indoor Mobile Coverage and Capacity Affects 39 Percent of Large Businesses in Britain

But 47 Percent of Businesses are Interested in Managed Mobility Services from their Mobile Operator

San Jose, California, February 12, 2013 SpiderCloud Wireless, Inc., a leading provider of scalable small cell Enterprise Radio Access Network (E-RAN) systems to mobile operators, today announced the findings of a survey conducted by international market research firm YouGov that reveals 39 percent of managers from large businesses surveyed, who also have IT decision making responsibility, say their businesses have had issues with poor in-building mobile coverage and/or capacity. The survey of IT managers found 35 percent of respondents whose businesses have a mobile operator say their business is prepared to move to a wireless carrier that could guarantee a better indoor solution.

The research found a desire by IT managers to take remedial steps to solve their in-building coverage and capacity problems. A quarter of those respondents whose businesses have had an issue had turned to their carrier for assistance but found their service provider was unable to help. Meanwhile over a quarter (28 percent) of IT managers claimed to have taken connectivity matters into their own hands and their businesses have installed a wireless system to improve coverage and/or capacity issues. A further 19 percent reported they had looked into installing a system but had yet to do so.

However, the survey also uncovered a significant business opportunity for mobile operators that can address the in-building challenge and deliver additional services to the enterprise. Nearly half of the IT managers surveyed (47 percent) reported interest in Mobile Device Management as an operator-hosted service to manage, monitor, secure and support mobile devices in the enterprise. 40 percent demonstrated an interest in Wi-Fi as a service from their operator. These findings support a recent report by Exact Ventures, Enterprise Mobility Services are Market Opportunity for Mobile Service Providers, which concludes that managed mobility services represent a $100 billion market opportunity for mobile operators, and a saving of 35% a year for enterprises adopting such operator-delivered managed and hosted services.

"A city can have almost ubiquitous 3G cellular coverage, but that's only half the mobility story, particularly when it comes to in-building services for enterprise customers," said Art King, Director of Enterprise Services & Technologies, SpiderCloud Wireless. "Too many businesses suffer from not only patchy indoor coverage in their premises, but also capacity issues that mean dropped calls, late texts and substandard data rates. Not surprisingly, a high number of businesses say they would churn to an operator that could guarantee better service - but the fact that they haven't already suggests that far from being an operator-dependent issue, it is actually all too common. There's a real opportunity therefore for the operator that can solve the in-building headache and then open up further incremental revenue streams from the new managed services they can offer over the top of the enterprise RAN," he continued.

Enterprise small cells have emerged as the most promising technology to deliver high-capacity and 3G coverage inside offices. Analyst firms such as Infonetics, ABI Research and Informa expect enterprise small cells to be the fastest growing segment of the small cell market. ABI predicts small cells for enterprise deployments will catch up with DAS by the 2016 timeframe - reaching the $2 billion mark by 2016.

SpiderCloud offers businesses a voice
Starting in 2013, mobile operators in the US and Europe now have the capability to deploy a scalable small cell system with reliable indoor 3G/4G and Wi-Fi coverage and capacity. The same system can also deliver mobility services such as MDM, BYOD, Security, PBX and Cloud Integration - helping businesses reap all the benefits of mobility without the CAPEX or headache. Scalable small cell systems for enterprise deployments by mobile operators
SpiderCloud is the first company to offer a true multi-mode access system with 3G, LTE/4G and dual-band Wi-Fi for reliable mobile services indoors for enterprise customers of any size, called an Enterprise Radio Access Network (E-RAN). The E-RAN system consists of a Services Node (SCSN) that can control over 100 self-organizing and multi-access 3G, Wi-Fi and LTE/4G small cells that can be installed in just days using an enterprise-Ethernet Local Area Network (LAN) as a managed service by a mobile operator's network. In addition to providing reliable coverage and capacity, the E-RAN with the Services Node includes an Applications Programming Interfaces (API). The API inside the Services Node provides trusted connections to the Radio Nodes and a logical view into all devices on the E-RAN, to enable secure services to any mobile device on the network.

One E-RAN can deliver unprecedented capacity and coverage to over 10,000 connected smartphones and tablets, with just one connection to the mobile operator's core network. The scalable system architecture simplifies deployment and overall network configuration for mobile operators as they address pent-up demand for reliable mobile services from enterprise and large venue customers.
