Manhattanville College School of Education

PURCHASE, NEW YORK -- (Marketwire) -- 03/01/13 -- If you are thinking about a career in education, consider becoming a part of the Manhattanville College School of Education community. We are not just a place to get a degree. We are esteemed for our community partnerships and engagement programs that continuously enhance our teaching so that our graduates are on the cutting edge of topics and issues in the education field. The School of Education also has a strong alumni program that provides students and graduates with ongoing professional development, networking and support.

Strong graduate school programs and partnerships with school districts mean that Manhattanville education students gain practical, real-world experience through school placements for field-based courses, internships, field observations, after-school projects, action research projects and student teaching to really learn what it means to teach increasingly diverse student populations. The School of Education now offers 65 graduate programs with field experience in diverse classroom settings. Our wide array of programs, including the Teaching English to Speakers in Other Languages Degree Program, can help prepare you to meet the needs of today's classroom environment.

The School of Education is very involved with the issues of diverse student populations in the local school districts. The School's signature community outreach program The Changing Suburbs Institute® (CSI), now in its eighth year, is being put on the national map with the publication of Changing Students, Changing Suburbs: Helping School Leaders Face the Challenges by Corwin Press. CSI's goals are to provide continuous professional and program development in the school districts to facilitate an increased engagement in learning and educational access for diverse K-12 students through professional development of teachers, program development and information dissemination. CSI achieves this through an annual educational forum for education practitioners in the tri-state region, a parent education program, Professional Development School (PDS) partnerships and a national clearinghouse. The eight CSI PDS schools in the Bedford, Elmsford, Greenburgh 7, New Rochelle, Ossining, Port Chester and White Plains school districts are working closely with us to prepare our students for teaching and leading, and to prepare their students for college and careers.

The School of Education's partnerships with other organizations serve to provide additional programs and opportunities for current and potential students. The School of Education Jump Start program recently developed a partnership with the Peace Corps that will provide a 50% discount for returning Peace Corps volunteers who would like to pursue a graduate Teaching Degree. We have expanded program offerings and offer our doctoral program in partnership with Putnam-Northern Westchester BOCES.

The School of Education's alumni program includes an Alumni Board that stays abreast of all that is happening in Manhattanville College's School of Education, and is involved with faculty and administrators to help with the school's mission, unique qualities and operations. The Board is intent on providing both current students and alumni with thought-provoking, interesting and useful professional development opportunities for learning about job opportunities, career-path alternatives and successful teaching and leadership practices.

Program/Department Alumni Associations are very active and are groups of alumni from specific program areas. The Early Childhood Alumni Association organizes an annual conference and most recently organized a children's party at a homeless shelter in White Plains. Other program alumni groups include Educational Leadership, Literacy and Physical Education.

Alumni cultivate and deliver professional development programs throughout the year for current students and alumni so that the School of Education community has access to new trends in education and networking opportunities.

Building a cross-cloud operational model can be a daunting task. Per-cloud silos are not the answer, but neither is a fully generic abstraction plane that strips out capabilities unique to a particular provider. In his session at 20th Cloud Expo, Chris Wolf, VP & Chief Technology Officer, Global Field & Industry at VMware, will discuss how successful organizations approach cloud operations and management, with insights into where operations should be centralized and when it’s best to decentraliz...
In recent years, containers have taken the world by storm. Companies of all sizes and industries have realized the massive benefits of containers, such as unprecedented mobility, higher hardware utilization, and increased flexibility and agility; however, many containers today are non-persistent. Containers without persistence miss out on many benefits, and in many cases simply pass the responsibility of persistence onto other infrastructure, adding additional complexity.

DevOps is often described as a combination of technology and culture. Without both, DevOps isn't complete. However, applying the culture to outdated technology is a recipe for disaster; as response times grow and connections between teams are delayed by technology, the culture will die. A Nutanix Enterprise Cloud has many benefits that provide the needed base for a true DevOps paradigm.
Back in February of 2017, Andrew Clay Schafer of Pivotal tweeted the following: “seriously tho, the whole software industry is stuck on deployment when we desperately need architecture and telemetry.” Intrigue in a 140 characters. For me, I hear Andrew saying, “we’re jumping to step 5 before we’ve successfully completed steps 1-4.”
All organizations that did not originate this moment have a pre-existing culture as well as legacy technology and processes that can be more or less amenable to DevOps implementation. That organizational culture is influenced by the personalities and management styles of Executive Management, the wider culture in which the organization is situated, and the personalities of key team members at all levels of the organization. This culture and entrenched interests usually throw a wrench in the work...
