KANSAS CITY, MO -- (Marketwire) -- 03/15/13 -- In a ceremony on March 13th in Washington, D.C., Senior Chief Petty Officer Jeffrey Norris, a member of the U.S. Navy and a Grantham University graduate, was presented with a GREAT Award (Graduate Recognition for Excellence, Achievement, and Talent) from the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities (APSCU). Since 2004, these awards have recognized students who have earned academic and professional success in the face of difficult circumstances.
SCPO Norris and his wife, Tina, lost their youngest son, Justin, from complications following a rare brain tumor. Although Justin had never been physically able to play baseball, he was passionate about the sport. The family decided to honor his memory by launching The Miracle League of Camden County. The non-profit organization's mission is to create a specially-equipped baseball field that enables children with physical mobility limitations to participate in Justin's favorite sport.
As The Miracle League developed, SCPO Norris decided to pursue his Master of Business Administration in Project Management at Grantham University. As time passed, SCPO Norris noticed how well his coursework aligned with the progression of his non-profit organization and his naval career.
"As a department level manager, my job is to manage individual projects, ensuring the strategic weapons system is maintained at the highest level of readiness," said SCPO Norris. "Project management was the perfect fit for me."
The interactive, collaborative nature of Grantham University's online classroom was also useful. SCPO Norris shared his project plan with instructors and gained insightful, actionable feedback needed to ensure the project's success. As a result, Justin's Miracle Field was completed in October 2011 -- a full year ahead of schedule.
Since Opening Day at Justin's Miracle Field, The Miracle League of Camden County has introduced 60 children to America's favorite pastime.
"It is an honor to see SCPO Norris achieve his degree and receive this well-deserved recognition," said Joseph McGrath, Grantham University President. "Using the skills he learned at Grantham, he created a memorial to his son and made a lasting, positive impact in the lives of other children and families. We are profoundly proud and look forward to his future accomplishments."

With billions of sensors deployed worldwide, the amount of machine-generated data will soon exceed what our networks can handle. But consumers and businesses will expect seamless experiences and real-time responsiveness. What does this mean for IoT devices and the infrastructure that supports them? More of the data will need to be handled at - or closer to - the devices themselves.

DevOps is often described as a combination of technology and culture. Without both, DevOps isn't complete. However, applying the culture to outdated technology is a recipe for disaster; as response times grow and connections between teams are delayed by technology, the culture will die. A Nutanix Enterprise Cloud has many benefits that provide the needed base for a true DevOps paradigm. In his Day 3 Keynote at 20th Cloud Expo, Chris Brown, a Solutions Marketing Manager at Nutanix, will explore t...

Building a cross-cloud operational model can be a daunting task. Per-cloud silos are not the answer, but neither is a fully generic abstraction plane that strips out capabilities unique to a particular provider. In his session at 20th Cloud Expo, Chris Wolf, VP & Chief Technology Officer, Global Field & Industry at VMware, will discuss how successful organizations approach cloud operations and management, with insights into where operations should be centralized and when it’s best to decentraliz...
