  • Nebula launched the long awaited Nebula One, a cloud based computer that allows users to easily connect cloud-based solutions, like AWS and OpenStack, into existing servers from Dell, HP, and IBM, to create a system that can be controlled by a single person, according to this RedOrbit article.

  • DigitalOcean, a cloud computing startup based in New York, revealed that data may be leaking between its customers after one customer found gigabytes of another customer’s data on his account, according to this Wired article. DigitalOcean’s cloud server platform is an inexpensive alternative to Rackspace and Amazon Web Services.

  • Savvis announced ClientConnect, an online portal that helps Savvis customers connect and share offerings that are hosted in Savvis’ datacenter facilities, according to this Datacenter Dynamic article. David Chernicoff discusses why services providers should take advantage of this model and the importance of a reliable infrastructure for customers of cloud services in this ZDnet article.

Economic benefits almost always lead the argument for moving to cloud computing. We’re told many things: cloud is cheaper; cloud frees up IT resources; cloud reduces capital expenditures; cloud allows organizations to scale with demand.

Maybe it does. Maybe it doesn’t. The only way to make an informed decision, backed by a solid return on investment (ROI), is to first understand the total cost of ownership (TCO) for your current and planned cloud infrastructure in advance of any cloud adoption.

This is obvious, right? But you might be surprised to learn that many large organizations commit to cloud computing without really knowing their TCO and projected ROI. Read the full article.
