Building on the success of its online education marketplace, Udemy today expanded into the corporate realm by launching Udemy for Organizations, a powerful online corporate training platform. The new offering allows companies to customize a private learning environment in a matter of minutes and train their employees using the highest-caliber industry and institutional knowledge – empowering employees to continually learn new skills on the job. Udemy debuted the platform here at the Arizona State University/Global Silicon Valley Education Innovation Summit 2013.
Borrowing from the successful MOOC model that is changing how people learn and based on the same user-friendly, on-demand platform as the Udemy website and iPad and iPhone applications, Udemy for Organizations provides customized, branded online learning experiences that enable companies to easily and effectively train employees. Organizations of any size can select courses from Udemy’s growing collection of 7,000 premium and free course offerings and/or create their own courses to capitalize on existing internal intellectual property (IP) utilizing Udemy’s easy-to-use course creation tools.
“Because of the skills-based nature of Udemy’s content, people were already using our classes in a corporate environment to learn new skills to stay relevant in their jobs and careers. It was a natural evolution for us to create a secure, co-branded space for organizations to make these classes available to their employees and control the content employees can see, all using our proven platform,” said Dennis Yang, president and chief operating officer of Udemy. “By combining a consumer-grade user experience with a large and growing content library, we’re creating a compelling alternative to traditional so-called ‘learning management systems,’ which have historically been difficult to use and have never realized their full potential – and hopefully helping close the skills gap, a major concern of employers today.”
Leveraging features included in Udemy’s online and mobile apps, Udemy for Organizations gives even the most non-technical person the ability to create an online training environment. Key features include:
- On-demand self-paced learning: Udemy for Organizations incorporates today’s learning styles with video-based, bite-size modular course design.
- Brand Customization: Administrators can customize the site with their company logo and background of choice.
- Custom courses: Organizations can easily produce custom content using their own subject matter experts (SMEs), leveraging the wisdom found within a company and extending an organization’s intellectual property (IP).
- Pre-Packaged Library: Companies can choose from among Udemy’s 7,000 courses – 75% of which are free – and make specific courses available to employees, easily add groups and users and even pre-assign courses.
- Advanced Analytics: Allows companies to monitor employee progress and performance.
“Our employees are extremely tech-savvy and extremely busy, so traditional training tools just don’t work for us,” said Chris Scoggins, senior vice president and general manager of Datalogix, an advertising technology company. “Udemy for Organizations gives us the flexibility to let our people take courses when and where they have the time, and lets us take advantage of the amazing content on the Udemy platform – as well as create our own courses to leverage all of our internal expertise.”
“The pace of change in business is faster than ever, putting pressure on companies to adapt more quickly,” added Yang. “Couple that with today’s digitally competent, easily distracted and increasingly mobile workforce and online, on-demand learning makes total sense – simultaneously creating improved efficiency and employee productivity. We’re already seeing this drive interest in Udemy for Organizations – and we’re seeing particular interest from small-and-medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that until now have not had a viable training solution.”
Udemy for Organizations set-up and user license fees are being waived for a limited time; customers pay only standard course purchase fees. To learn more, visit http://organizations.udemy.com.

"I think that everyone recognizes that for IoT to really realize its full potential and value that it is about creating ecosystems and marketplaces and that no single vendor is able to support what is required," explained Esmeralda Swartz, VP, Marketing Enterprise and Cloud at Ericsson, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at @ThingsExpo, held June 7-9, 2016, at the Javits Center in New York City, NY.

Most companies are adopting or evaluating container technology - Docker in particular - to speed up application deployment, drive down cost, ease management and make application delivery more flexible overall. As with most new architectures, this dream takes a lot of work to become a reality. Even when you do get your application componentized enough and packaged properly, there are still challenges for DevOps teams to making the shift to continuous delivery and achieving that reduction in cost ...

After more than five years of DevOps, definitions are evolving, boundaries are expanding, ‘unicorns’ are no longer rare, enterprises are on board, and pundits are moving on. Can we now look at an evolution of DevOps? Should we? Is the foundation of DevOps ‘done’, or is there still too much left to do? What is mature, and what is still missing? What does the next 5 years of DevOps look like? In this Power Panel at DevOps Summit, moderated by DevOps Summit Conference Chair Andi Mann, panelists l...

Virtualization over the past years has become a key strategy for IT to acquire multi-tenancy, increase utilization, develop elasticity and improve security. And virtual machines (VMs) are quickly becoming a main vehicle for developing and deploying applications. The introduction of containers seems to be bringing another and perhaps overlapped solution for achieving the same above-mentioned benefits. Are a container and a virtual machine fundamentally the same or different? And how? Is one techn...

My team embarked on building a data lake for our sales and marketing data to better understand customer journeys. This required building a hybrid data pipeline to connect our cloud CRM with the new Hadoop Data Lake. One challenge is that IT was not in a position to provide support until we proved value and marketing did not have the experience, so we embarked on the journey ourselves within the product marketing team for our line of business within Progress. In his session at @BigDataExpo, Sum...

DevOps is often described as a combination of technology and culture. Without both, DevOps isn't complete. However, applying the culture to outdated technology is a recipe for disaster; as response times grow and connections between teams are delayed by technology, the culture will die. A Nutanix Enterprise Cloud has many benefits that provide the needed base for a true DevOps paradigm.

DevOps tends to focus on the relationship between Dev and Ops, putting an emphasis on the ops and application infrastructure. But that’s changing with microservices architectures. In her session at DevOps Summit, Lori MacVittie, Evangelist for F5 Networks, will focus on how microservices are changing the underlying architectures needed to scale, secure and deliver applications based on highly distributed (micro) services and why that means an expansion into “the network” for DevOps.
