Tecore Networks Provides Lifesaving Communications in Yakutat, Alaska

Tecore Networks, a global supplier of multi-technology 2G, 3G and 4G mobile network infrastructure, announced today that its Network in a Box (NIB) System in Yakutat, Alaska deployed just months prior by Cordova Wireless provided the lifesaving communications for two stranded hunters.

What began as a typical hunting trip for two brothers to an isolated reef in Yakutat Bay nearly turned tragic when the anchor of their skiff gave way and the boat started to drift out to sea. After a failed attempt to reclaim their boat from the icy water, the water soaked brothers thought they were out of options. As the tide rose across the reef, they soon realized they had a cell phone with them (purchased just days prior to the trip). Once they climbed to the highest location on the reef they were able to place the life saving call to their family. Within the hour help arrived and they were transported back to safety.

"It was the most amazing feeling on the planet, we thought we were going to die, but that cell phone saved our lives," said survivor Vernon Schumacher in a news article published by the Cordova Times.
