WASHINGTON, July 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Lung Association's Facing Lung Cancer: Support from Day One online lung cancer resource now features a new video, "Navigating Lung Cancer: Stories of Support" with stories of support from patients and caregivers who want to help others through the emotional and physical challenges of the disease. This compelling video is the latest addition to the organization's patient- and caregiver-focused, online lung cancer resource that launched in November 2012 with support from Eli Lilly and Company.

Greta Kreuz, lung cancer survivor and award-winning reporter and anchor for ABC7/WJLA-TV, narrates "Navigating Lung Cancer: Stories of Support," and is joined by three other lung cancer patients in sharing their personal experiences with lung cancer and how they found support. Their stories are punctuated by anecdotes from their families, as well as guidance from Ashley Varner, an oncology social worker and Kyra Walters, an oncology nurse.
"This is a must-see for everyone dealing with lung cancer. Real people, real stories – and so very important – practical tips, advice and resources. I found myself alternately nodding in affirmation, getting teary-eyed--and taking notes! Thinking, 'Yes, that's exactly what I felt.' Or, 'You took the words right out of my mouth!' Or, 'Great idea; I'm going to try that myself!' The documentary is validating, eye-opening, and hope-affirming for both people living with lung cancer and their loved ones. I am proud to have been a small part of it," said Greta Kreuz.
In addition to this new video, the Interactive Library on Facing Lung Cancer: Support from Day One hosts a variety of videos that address specific topics of interest for people living with lung cancer and their loved ones. These issues range from the shock of being diagnosed with lung cancer, to sharing the news of your diagnosis with loved ones, and the physical, emotional, social and spiritual challenges. Your Profile, Your Goals guides users through a personalized web experience where they are prompted to answer questions about their specific lung cancer at specific decision points throughout the video. Based upon their responses, users then proceed to a video section tailored to their specific needs. At the end of the video, the user can print out a tailored and personalized list of questions for discussion with their care team. Your Profile, Your Goals is also now mobile friendly.
"It is important that lung cancer patients and their loved ones identify strategies for getting support, recognize how their life has changed, and identify ways to manage their anxiety, frustration, and fear of the unknown," said Harold P. Wimmer, National President and CEO of the American Lung Association. "These are all very personal and deeply emotional issues, and our goal with Facing Lung Cancer: Support from Day One is to help lung cancer patients and their loved ones navigate these issues."
"We're pleased to provide support for this initiative," Said Newt Crenshaw, Vice President, Lilly Oncology. "Navigating Lung Cancer: Stories of Support gives lung cancer patients and their caregivers important information in a very personal, approachable way that lets them know they're not alone."

I recently attended and was a speaker at the 4th International Internet of @ThingsExpo at the Santa Clara Convention Center. I also had the opportunity to attend this event last year and I wrote a blog from that show talking about how the “Enterprise Impact of IoT” was a key theme of last year’s show. I was curious to see if the same theme would still resonate 365 days later and what, if any, changes I would see in the content presented.

Cloud computing delivers on-demand resources that provide businesses with flexibility and cost-savings. The challenge in moving workloads to the cloud has been the cost and complexity of ensuring the initial and ongoing security and regulatory (PCI, HIPAA, FFIEC) compliance across private and public clouds. Manual security compliance is slow, prone to human error, and represents over 50% of the cost of managing cloud applications. Determining how to automate cloud security compliance is critical...

Gartner has forecast revenues of over $300 billion, just to IoT suppliers. Now is the time to figure out how you’ll make money – not just create innovative products. With hundreds of new products and companies jumping into the IoT fray every month, there’s no shortage of innovation. Despite this, McKinsey/VisionMobile data...

Just over a week ago I received a long and loud sustained applause for a presentation I delivered at this year’s Cloud Expo in Santa Clara. I was extremely pleased with the turnout and had some very good conversations with many of the attendees. Over the next few days I had many more meaningful conversations and was not only happy with the results but also learned a few new things. Here is everything I learned in those three days distilled into three short points.

Culture is the most important ingredient of DevOps. The challenge for most organizations is defining and communicating a vision of beneficial DevOps culture for their organizations, and then facilitating the changes needed to achieve that. Often this comes down to an ability to provide true leadership. As a CIO, are your direct reports IT managers or are they IT leaders? The hard truth is that many IT managers have risen through the ranks based on their technical skills, not their leadership ab...
