Issuu, the World’s Fastest-Growing Digital Publishing Platform Expands from Europe to Silicon Valley, Hires Chief Executive Officer and Appoints Google Executive to Board

Issuu, the world’s fastest-growing digital publishing and discovery platform with over 65 million unique users and 14 million publications, today announced that the company has hired Joe Hyrkin as Chief Executive Officer and has expanded from Denmark to open new offices in Palo Alto, California to focus on growth in the heart of Silicon Valley. Additionally, Issuu’s Board of Directors has named Google technology and social media veteran Bradley Horowitz to its board.

According to a recent report from PriceWaterhouseCoopers it is predicted that consumer spending on digital magazines will exceed $80.2B by 2016. And while newsstands sales fell and subscriptions remained flat, GfK MRI’s latest Survey of the American Consumer, the industry standard for magazine audience ratings in the U.S, digital magazine readership increased 83% over the past year.

Issuu’s platform delivers an immersive, visually captivating reading experience and its publishing tools have become the de facto standard for publishers to digitize and deliver their content online. Joe Hyrkin brings more than 20 years of tech and publishing sector expertise to the Issuu team. Previously CEO of Reverb as well as Entrepreneur in Residence at Trinity Ventures, Hyrkin has also held top leadership positions at Gaia Interactive, Yahoo!, Flickr and Virage, Inc.

Bradley Horowitz is Vice President of Product Management, Social Products Division at Google. Previously Bradley led product management for Google’s consumer application sector managing products such as Gmail, Google Talk, Google Docs, Google Voice and Calendar. Previously he directed advanced development at Yahoo!, and played a key role in its acquisition of Flickr. A technology and social media visionary, Horowitz will be instrumental in helping to guide Issuu’s strategy and vision as the company expands.

Issuu also appointed other key executives including Scott Kinzie as Vice President of Marketing and Nitin Gupta as Vice President of Business Development.
