RESTON, VA--(Marketwired - September 26, 2013) - The Austin-Weston Center for Cosmetic Surgery is delighted to welcome plastic surgeon Dr. Christopher Knotts to the practice. Approximately 200 plastic surgeons enter practice each year. Of these 200, 50 applied for the position of Austin-Weston Center plastic surgeon -- and of all these, Dr. Knotts was the clear choice.
"We are thrilled to have Chris at Austin-Weston," says Dr. George Weston. "He brings with him fresh perspectives and a wonderful positive attitude, two qualities that are inherently part of the Austin-Weston way of doing things."
Adds Dr. Robert Sigal, "Chris has the boundless energy necessary to be a great plastic surgeon and that thing that is almost more rare and undefinable, yet absolutely crucial to thriving at Austin-Weston: 'good energy.' It is Chris' good energy that makes it a pleasure for patients and staff to be around him, to be his patient, and to work with him."
Says Dr. Byron Poindexter, "Chris has compassion, intellectual curiosity, and exceptional surgical skills. Bringing Chris to Austin-Weston is a home run for our patients and staff. Chris has already treated some of our staff, and they all say the same thing: that talking with Chris is like talking to a caring, understanding friend."
"I'm really happy to be here at Austin-Weston," says Dr. Knotts. "When I saw the high levels of surgical artistry and care by the surgeons and staff here, and their commitment to patient safety, satisfaction and well-being before and after cosmetic surgery, I knew it would be a good fit for me.
"Everything about The Austin-Weston Center reminded me of why I became interested in plastic surgery. It was during my fourth year of medical school when I saw the difference it can make in people's lives, and I knew I'd found my passion."
After earning his medical degree at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Dr. Knotts completed an accredited 5-year combined plastic surgery and general surgery residency at the University of Oklahoma. "In Oklahoma, I did mostly facial trauma, breast reconstruction, pediatric surgery, and trunk reconstruction. I was introduced to cosmetic surgery there and I really enjoyed it."
Says Dr. Knotts, "The patients were the best. They wanted surgery, they were realistic, they had problems that were fixable and they were happy afterward. It was the ideal situation. Mix that in with creativity and artistic vision, and you have the best specialty in the world."
Continues Dr. Knotts, "After residency, I decided to do an elective extra year of cosmetic surgery training. I wanted to take every opportunity to increase my knowledge and skill in my chosen field. So I went to Charlotte, NC, and completed one of the few aesthetic surgery fellowships in the country at the Hunstad-Kortesis Center for Cosmetic Surgery.
"My fellowship there with Drs. Hunstad and Kortesis was a great experience. I focused 100% on cosmetic surgery and did a lot of body contouring, liposuction, tummy tucks, breast augmentations, facelifts, eyelid surgeries, laser skin resurfacing -- all things cosmetic," says Dr. Knotts.
"During my year in North Carolina, one important skill I learned was managing patient expectations. The surgeon has to know his or her limitations, and what results can be predictably and safely achieved. That's the easy part. The next thing is communication, and getting on the same page with the patient.
"Sometimes things we don't like about ourselves others might see as small, or even trivial, even though to us, it's a very big deal. It takes a lot of courage to come in and talk to a plastic surgeon about that. I admire my patients. They've taken a big step to come and see me, and I like to be a part of that discussion, and to understand their desires and what they need."
Says Dr. Knotts, "Sometimes a cosmetic surgery consultation is a one-time, simple discussion. Sometimes it takes several visits before we are both comfortable with each other. Once we decide to go through with surgery, though, my promise is to do my best and be with that patient through the entire process. My goal is to help my patients with those things that can be a stumbling block to living life fully."
Explains Dr. Knotts, "After surgery, when aesthetic issues that bother patients are no longer present, it sets them free to live a more fulfilling life. That's incredibly rewarding to me, and it's the reason I chose to specialize in cosmetic surgery. I'd never want to do anything else. It's been great having the experience of making a lasting, profound and positive impact on patients' lives, and I'm excited to continue doing that here in Reston with Drs. Weston, Sigal and Poindexter."
Beyond cosmetic plastic surgery, Dr. Knotts also has a strong interest in facial trauma and takes plastic surgery calls at hospitals in the Reston area. His extracurricular interests include collecting mid-century modern furniture, volleyball, Muay Thai kickboxing, acoustic guitar and cycling.
Dr. Knotts will make a special presentation on injectables and facial fillers at the Austin-Weston Center's annual Fall Open House on Saturday, October 26, 10am-2pm. "I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to meet patients, friends and family of the Austin-Weston Center at the Fall Open House," says Dr. Knotts. "Please stop by and say hello! I'm pretty tall, and hard to miss!"
The Fall Open House is open to the public, and members of the media are welcome. Press wishing to register for the event or to arrange an interview with Drs. Knotts, Poindexter, Sigal or Weston should contact Genevieve Kopel at email@example.com or (703) 230-2537. The modern software development landscape consists of best practices and tools that allow teams to deliver software in a near-continuous manner. By adopting a culture of automation, measurement and sharing, the time to ship code has been greatly reduced, allowing for shorter release cycles and quicker feedback from customers and users. Still, with all of these tools and methods, how can teams stay on top of what is taking place across their infrastructure and codebase? Hopping between services a...

WebRTC is about the data channel as much as about video and audio conferencing. However, basically all commercial WebRTC applications have been built with a focus on audio and video. The handling of “data” has been limited to text chat and file download – all other data sharing seems to end with screensharing. What is holding back a more intensive use of peer-to-peer data? In her session at @ThingsExpo, Dr Silvia Pfeiffer, WebRTC Applications Team Lead at National ICT Australia, looked at differ...

Wooed by the promise of faster innovation, lower TCO, and greater agility, businesses of every shape and size have embraced the cloud at every layer of the IT stack – from apps to file sharing to infrastructure. The typical organization currently uses more than a dozen sanctioned cloud apps and will shift more than half of all workloads to the cloud by 2018. Such cloud investments have delivered measurable benefits. But they’ve also resulted in some unintended side-effects: complexity and risk. ...

The explosion of new web/cloud/IoT-based applications and the data they generate are transforming our world right before our eyes. In this rush to adopt these new technologies, organizations are often ignoring fundamental questions concerning who owns the data and failing to ask for permission to conduct invasive surveillance of their customers. Organizations that are not transparent about how their systems gather data telemetry without offering shared data ownership risk product rejection, regu...

When you focus on a journey from up-close, you look at your own technical and cultural history and how you changed it for the benefit of the customer. This was our starting point: too many integration issues, 13 SWP days and very long cycles. It was evident that in this fast-paced industry we could no longer afford this reality. We needed something that would take us beyond reducing the development lifecycles, CI and Agile methodologies. We made a fundamental difference, even changed our culture...
