Connecticut’s Leading Sports and Entertainment Facility Completes Significant Energy Retrofit at Trumbull Connecticut Facility

Bluestone Energy Services, LLC, a leader in energy conservation engineering and project development services for a variety of sectors including industrial and retail, announced today that it has helped Insports, one of Connecticut’s largest indoor sports and entertainment facilities, install an energy savings lighting retrofit as part of an overall facility renovation.

For the project, Bluestone replaced T5 fluorescent fixtures at the Trumbull, Conn facility with Albeo™ ABHX LED Luminaires, a lighting solution distributed by GE Lighting. The photometrically designed LED lighting project will increase light levels in the space, improving on-field visibility, while strengthening Insports’ commitment to sustainability.

Additionally, Bluestone designed an advanced controls solution enabling Insports to fine-tune lighting levels based on occupancy, scheduling and day-lighting. The controls solution will also allow Insports to monitor overall energy performance of the lighting in the facility. The project qualified Insports for the Energy Policy Act 2005 Federal Tax benefit.

“Our collaboration with Bluestone will significantly improve our environmental footprint and will increase the lighting quality for our customers,” said Peter Corbett, President and CEO of Insports. “We are dedicated to running a high-quality facility in all aspects of its features, and this LED lighting retrofit reflects Insports’ commitment to sustainability and our customers.”

“We’re pleased to have had the opportunity to work with a forward thinking company like Insports that is focused on sustainability,” said Ryan Blair, President of Bluestone Energy. “The LED lighting retrofit will not only improve the quality of life for Insports’ patrons, but will lower energy costs for years to come.”

In the coming months, Insports will be installing an Encon Solar 250kWh solar system on its roof that will provide approximately 60% of its power needs. Insports will also be installing a new building wrap system that will double its insulation value and dramatically reduce its energy consumption for heating and cooling.

In addition to the state-of-the-art LED lighting and air circulation systems designed and implemented by Bluestone and Encon Heating & Air Conditioning, Insports installed top-of-the-line playing surfaces during the renovation.

Insports is dedicated to providing an exceptional facility to promote health, wellness and safety for its athletes, players, and guests. Along with premier athletic and facility amenities, Insports also remains committed to its environmental impact, leading to their collaboration with Bluestone. “Our facility will be one of the first to incorporate all of the latest energy saving technology that will reduce our carbon footprint while creating the optimal playing and viewing environment for our participants and spectators,” added Peter Corbett.

The Trumbull, Conn facility was just renovated this summer under new ownership and encompasses 108,000 square feet of space. The multi-sport recreation center provides state-of-the-art facilities and programs for athletes, families, and guests. Insports offers a 100-yard turf field, three regulation size hardwood courts, and Fairfield county’s only dasher-board arena, as well as a newly opened restaurant, expanded concessions, full bar, and welcoming lounge spaces to accommodate their wide range of users and programs.

Skeuomorphism usually means retaining existing design cues in something new that doesn’t actually need them. However, the concept of skeuomorphism can be thought of as relating more broadly to applying existing patterns to new technologies that, in fact, cry out for new approaches. It’s been proven time and time again that in tech, diversity drives greater innovation, better team productivity and greater profits and market share. So what can we do in our DevOps teams to embrace diversity and help transform the culture of development and operations into a true “DevOps” team? In her session at DevOps Summit, Stefana Muller, Director, Product Management – Continuous Delivery at CA Technologies, answered that question citing examples, showing how to create opportunities for ...

Everyone talks about continuous integration and continuous delivery but those are just two ends of the pipeline. In the middle of DevOps is continuous testing (CT), and many organizations are struggling to implement continuous testing effectively. After all, without continuous testing there is no delivery. And Lab-As-A-Service (LaaS) enhances the CT with dynamic on-demand self-serve test topologies. CT together with LAAS make a powerful combination that perfectly serves complex software developm...
WebRTC has had a real tough three or four years, and so have those working with it. Only a few short years ago, the development world were excited about WebRTC and proclaiming how awesome it was. You might have played with the technology a couple of years ago, only to find the extra infrastructure requirements were painful to implement and poorly documented. This probably left a bitter taste in your mouth, especially when things went wrong.
Any Ops team trying to support a company in today’s cloud-connected world knows that a new way of thinking is required – one just as dramatic than the shift from Ops to DevOps. The diversity of modern operations requires teams to focus their impact on breadth vs. depth. In his session at DevOps Summit, Adam Serediuk, Director of Operations at xMatters, Inc., will discuss the strategic requirements of evolving from Ops to DevOps, and why modern Operations has begun leveraging the “NoOps” approa...
As more intelligent IoT applications shift into gear, they’re merging into the ever-increasing traffic flow of the Internet. It won’t be long before we experience bottlenecks, as IoT traffic peaks during rush hours. Organizations that are unprepared will find themselves by the side of the road unable to cross back into the fast lane. As billions of new devices begin to communicate and exchange data – will your infrastructure be scalable enough to handle this new interconnected world?
In today's digital world, change is the one constant. Disruptive innovations like cloud, mobility, social media, and the Internet of Things have reshaped the market and set new standards in customer expectations. Too often with compelling new technologies market participants become overly enamored with that attractiveness of the technology and neglect underlying business drivers. This tendency, what some call the “newest shiny object syndrome,” is understandable given that virtually all of us are heavily engaged in technology. But it is also mistaken. Without concrete business cases driving its deployment, IoT, like many other technologies before it, will fade into obscurity.

Consumer IoT applications provide data about the user that just doesn’t exist in traditional PC or mobile web applications. This rich data, or “context,” enables the highly personalized consumer experiences that characterize many consumer IoT apps.
