Run for a Cause This Thanksgiving in San Diego: Announced by SanDiego.com

SAN DIEGO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 11/08/13 -- Make sure those shoelaces are tied on tight and get ready to run for a cause this Thanksgiving! Participants won't have to feel guilty about feasting this year since they'll burn off the calories ahead of time. Thanksgiving has always been a time of year where people give thanks and give back, and SanDiego.com has three Thanksgiving day races in San Diego which anyone can participate in to help out some of San Diego's best charities. Bring the whole family; this is a great family-friendly option for Thanksgiving activities in San Diego.

United Run For The Hungry
The only race in downtown San Diego, taking place in East Village. Proceeds will benefit the Jacob & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, and Foodmobile, a program of Jewish Family Services. The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank distributes food for more than 10 million meals annually and the Foodmobile delivers more than 28,000 hot meals to elderly and home-bound. Donations are also able to be made to these charities online at Unitedrunforthehungry.org. Bring canned goods and donate to the San Diego Food Bank & Foodmobile.

Join or watch the race with friends and family. Dogs are welcome and costumes are encouraged with a $10 registration fee. Pure fitness is offering all participants a complementary 3-day pass to any PureFitness location. Medals will be awarded for both the 5k and 10k to the first 3 finishers of the various age groups, and time chips will be provided for all runners.

Join the Manzanita Brewing Company & Fa Cat Beers in the beer garden as the perfect finish to the event.

12th Father Joe's Village Thanksgiving 5k
This race is crucial to the support of the organization's programs to help the homeless as Southern California's largest residential homeless service provider. Each registration will benefit San Diego and the future of our homeless. With a one-stop-shop approach to helping they offer housing, healthcare, food, clothing, education, job training, and child development to the homeless.

Last year over 10,000 community members participated in this fun filled event. The course runs through Balboa Park and passes by the San Diego Zoo; it is walker and runner friendly. Wheelchairs, strollers, and pets on non-retractable leashes are welcome. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group.

The fun doesn't end after the finish line is crossed! The Blue Rockit Band will be performing live at the finish line, and race participants can grab a complementary Stone Brewery beer at the post-race event. Homemade pies from the students of St.Vincent de Paul Village's Culinary Arts program will be available for purchase for $15.

4th Annual Thank You Run
Supporting two worthy causes, Helen's Closet and 4S Ranch-Del Sur Community Foundation. Helen's Closet provides comfort equipment for terminally ill ALS patients, such as wheelchairs, ramps, and other equipment free of charge. 4S Ranch-Del Sur Community Foundation supports local schools, the surrounding communities and other priorities.

All participants receive a finisher's medal. Top 3 for every age group will also receive awards as well as the overall race winners, and time chips will be provided for runners in the 5k and 10k.

Offering fun for the whole family, the post-race family festival will take place once again this year. Cheer to a great cause at the Karl Strauss Beer Garden, or tag a buddy at the Equinox Laser Tag arena.
