GainSpan Low-Power Wi-Fi Powers DoorBot "Smart" Video Doorbell

Wi-Fi-enabled doorbell streams live video of front doorstep directly to smartphone

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- GainSpan® Corporation, a leader in ultra-low power Wi-Fi connectivity for the Internet of Things, today announced that its low-power Wi-Fi technology is powering the DoorBot wireless videocamera doorbell. DoorBot allows you to see and talk with visitors through your smartphone or tablet from anywhere in the world. More than 10,000 DoorBot Wi-Fi doorbells have been sold since the product was introduced.

The DoorBot "Smart" doorbell leverages GainSpan's GS1011MEE Wi-Fi module to provide customers with reliable wireless performance, easy installation and extended battery life. The DoorBot app available for iOS and Android devices sends a notification to the user whenever someone pushes its button, sending audio and video over Wi-Fi to their smartphone. DoorBot users will be able to see who's standing at their front door and communicate with the visitor over audio. 

DoorBot installs in a matter of minutesit can be hardwired where your old doorbell lived, or run on an internal battery that only needs to be recharged annually. The camera uses LED technology to allow a view of visitors even in the dark. DoorBot is also compatible with Lockitron, allowing the user to lock/unlock the door's deadbolt with a smartphone application.

The GS1011MEE module provides high output power of 18 dBm for extended range operation. It features a full integrated networking stack, completely offloading the host microcontroller.
