LONDON, January 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
- SECOND SEASON OF U.S. CABLE SERIES TO AIR EXCLUSIVELY ON LOVEFiLM -
- NEW EPISODES AVAILABLE DAY AFTER U.S. BROADCAST -
Amazon's LOVEFiLM and MGM Television (MGM) have today announced that the highly anticipated second season of last year's critically-acclaimed Norse epic "VIKINGS" will air exclusively on LOVEFiLM in the UK.
Premiering on 28th February 2014, each new weekly installment in the 10-episode series will be available to stream the day after it broadcasts in the U.S. in full high definition, allowing LOVEFiLM members to keep up with the Viking horde as the season progresses.
Starring Travis Fimmel (star of the upcoming film "Warcraft"), Katheryn Winnick ("Love and Other Drugs", "Bones") and Clive Standen ("Hammer of the Gods", "Camelot"), "VIKINGS" season two sees the notorious Norse warrior Ragnar Lothbrok (Fimmel) use his new position as Earl to continue to plunder, pillage and explore new kingdoms with his band of fearless warriors.
Now allied with Donal Logue's ("Sons of Anarchy", "Grounded for Life") King Horrik, Ragnar is more powerful than ever. However, this newfound power comes at great cost - the betrayal of his vicious brother Rollo (Standen), the deterioration of his marriage to the fearless shield-maiden Lagertha (Winnick), and the scorn of his bold warrior son, Bjorn, played by newcomer Alexander Ludwig ("The Hunger Games").
Created and written once again by Michael Hirst - one of the premier historical story-tellers in the industry (Academy-Award® winning film "Elizabeth" and the Emmy and Golden Globe nominated series "The Tudors") - "VIKINGS" season two is a tale of faith, power and relationships in which plots are hatched, scores are settled and blood is spilled.
Hirst serves as Executive Producer along with Morgan O'Sullivan of World 2000 ("The Count of Monte Cristo", "The Tudors"), John Weber of Take 5 Productions ("The Tudors", "The Borgias"), Sherry Marsh, Alan Gasmer, James Flynn ("The Tudors", "The Borgias") and Sheila Hockin ("The Tudors", "The Borgias"). MGM Television serves as the international distributor in all markets outside of the U.S., Ireland and Canada. HISTORY broadcasts 'VIKINGS' in the U.S. Dirk Hoogstra and Julian P. Hobbs are the Executives in Charge of Production for HISTORY.
Chris Bird, Director, Film Strategy at LOVEFiLM, said:
"'VIKINGS' has been a huge hit with our members and received incredible feedback, so we're thrilled to start 2014 with a bang by bringing the horde back to British screens in the eagerly anticipated second season. With Michael Hirst at the helm the 'VIKINGS' storyline contains something for everyone - love, conflict, revenge, adventure and of course epic battle scenes worthy of Viking folklore."
Chris Ottinger, President International Television Distribution & Acquisitions, MGM, adds:
"MGM is thrilled about 'VIKINGS'' global success, with the series viewed in almost every market in the world. It is truly gratifying that audiences around the globe connected deeply with the incredible performances and storytelling from this stellar cast of talented artists. We are excited to further our relationship with LOVEFiLM to bring the highly-anticipated second season of 'VIKINGS' to their subscribers in 2014, and offering the opportunity to stream the latest episodes within 24 hours of the U.S. airdate, watching every epic battle in high-definition."
"VIKINGS" season two will premiere exclusively on LOVEFiLM in the UK on 28th February 2014. All nine episodes from season one are available to stream today exclusively on LOVEFiLM for as little as £5.99 a month.

"Vikings" transports us to the brutal and mysterious world of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), a Viking warrior and farmer who yearns to explore-and raid-the distant shores across the ocean. His ambition puts him at odds with local chieftain Earl Haraldson (Gabriel Byrne), who insists on sending his raiders to the impoverished east rather than the uncharted west. When Ragnar teams up with his boat builder friend Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard) to craft a new generation of intrepid ships capable of conquering the rough northern seas, the stage is set for conflict.
But for all its warfare and bloodshed, "Vikings" is also a story of family and brotherhood, capturing the love and affection between Ragnar and his wife, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), a respected warrior in her own right. It is the tale of Ragnar's brother Rollo (Clive Standen), a fierce fighter who simmers with jealously; of Earl Haraldson's wife Siggy (Jessalyn Gilsig), a dutiful beauty who may be less than loyal; and of the monk Athelstan (George Blagden), whose Christian morals clash with the Vikings' pagan society. As ambition and innovation rattle a civilization, these characters will be put to the test-and their way of life will never be the same again.
Vikings was created and written by Michael Hirst (Elizabeth, The Tudors).

Enterprise IT has been in the era of Hybrid Cloud for some time now. But it seems most conversations about Hybrid are focused on integrating AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google ECM into existing on-premises systems. Where is all the Private Cloud? What do technology providers need to do to make their offerings more compelling? How should enterprise IT executives and buyers define their focus, needs, and roadmap, and communicate that clearly to the providers?

Complete Internet of Things (IoT) embedded device security is not just about the device but involves the entire product’s identity, data and control integrity, and services traversing the cloud. A device can no longer be looked at as an island; it is a part of a system. In fact, given the cross-domain interactions enabled by IoT it could be a part of many systems. Also, depending on where the device is deployed, for example, in the office building versus a factory floor or oil field, security ha...

In addition to all the benefits, IoT is also bringing new kind of customer experience challenges - cars that unlock themselves, thermostats turning houses into saunas and baby video monitors broadcasting over the internet. This list can only increase because while IoT services should be intuitive and simple to use, the delivery ecosystem is a myriad of potential problems as IoT explodes complexity. So finding a performance issue is like finding the proverbial needle in the haystack.

The idea of comparing data in motion (at the sensor level) to data at rest (in a Big Data server warehouse) with predictive analytics in the cloud is very appealing to the industrial IoT sector. The problem Big Data vendors have, however, is access to that data in motion at the sensor location. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Scott Allen, CMO of FreeWave, discussed how as IoT is increasingly adopted by industrial markets, there is going to be an increased demand for sensor data from the outermos...

Between 2005 and 2020, data volumes will grow by a factor of 300 – enough data to stack CDs from the earth to the moon 162 times. This has come to be known as the ‘big data’ phenomenon. Unfortunately, traditional approaches to handling, storing and analyzing data aren’t adequate at this scale: they’re too costly, slow and physically cumbersome to keep up. Fortunately, in response a new breed of technology has emerged that is cheaper, faster and more scalable. Yet, in meeting these new needs they...

When it comes to cloud computing, the ability to turn massive amounts of compute cores on and off on demand sounds attractive to IT staff, who need to manage peaks and valleys in user activity. More and more companies are looking to microservices as an architectural pattern for breaking apart applications into more manageable pieces so that agile teams can deliver new features quicker and more effectively. What this pattern has done more than anything to date is spark organizational transformations, setting the foundation for future application development.
