Global Operator Capital Spending, Fueled by Fiber-Optic Broadband and LTE Wireless Infrastructure, Is on the Rise

This IDC study analyzes the global telecommunications market for the first six months of 2013. There is some cheer for network equipment vendors after the disastrous 2012. Network operators worldwide are investing heavily in 4G LTE services as well as fiber-optic broadband to improve margins under the surging demand for data.

According to Venkatesh Mahale, senior analyst, Telecommunications, "Referring to IDC's Global Telecom Indicators database, operators put together spent $346 billion in 2013, with year-over-year growth of 7%, and are expected to continue the momentum going into 2014 and end the year with a total capex spend of around $370 billion."
