Digital Element’s IP Geolocation Technology Enables Emergency Service Calls For VOIP Users

COCUS AG, a German telecommunication consultancy and solution provider, today announced the deployment of Digital Element’s pioneering IP geolocation technology, specifically to enable a large telecommunications client to determine the location of a person calling on a Voice Over IP (VOIP) phone to support emergency call routing, prevent fraudulent service usage and fulfill regulatory requirements on location detection.

COCUS was tasked by one of its global telephony clients to design and implement the solution into their respective end-to-end architecture and ensure optimum IP geolocation for all access channels.

COCUS chose Digital Element’s IP geolocation intelligence technology as part of a solution that automatically and dependably determines the location of a potentially nomadic device by IP address, allowing, for example, the call to be routed to the nearest emergency service centre, in case of emergency calls.

COCUS and their telephony client have deployed the new service in Germany with plans to roll out the service to other countries’ networks.
