Former IRS Acting Commissioner Steven Miller Joins alliantgroup

HOUSTON, Jan. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- alliantgroup is proud to announce the appointment of former IRS Acting Commissioner, Steven T. Miller, as the firm's National Director of Tax. In a career devoted to government service, Miller has spent the last 25 years with the IRS, serving the agency in a number of diverse and increasingly important roles. In his new position, Miller will be leading alliantgroup's Washington National Office and expanding the scope of the firm's Tax Controversy Services practice. As a leader of the firm's TCS team, Miller will assist taxpayers on federal, state and international tax matters.

I am excited to join such a great and energetic team," Miller said. "I look forward to helping American businesses comply with the tax code and successfully navigate their relationships with tax agencies."

Miller joins former IRS Commissioner Mark W. Everson at alliantgroup and brings with him immense experience at all levels of the Service. Prior to being appointed Acting IRS Commissioner in 2012, Miller served for several years as the Deputy Commissioner for Services and Enforcement, leading all IRS enforcement and service activity. Miller also served as the Commissioner of the Large and Mid-Size Business Division, overseeing IRS audits of large taxpayers and the IRS programs relating to offshore tax compliance and international tax law enforcement. As the Commissioner of the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division, Miller supervised the IRS oversight of governments, tax exempt entities and retirement programs.

"I am pleased to welcome Steve Miller to alliantgroup," said former IRS Commissioner and alliantgroup Vice Chairman Mark W. Everson. "Steve's broad experience at the service – including oversight of critical initiatives like implementation of the Affordable Care Act and efforts to combat identity theft – can only help the CPAs and clients we work with across the country."

"Bringing Steve Miller to the alliantgroup team to assist our clients and CPA partners takes our best-in-class tax team and puts them on a whole new level.  This is a great day for businesses," said Dhaval Jadav, alliantgroup CEO.

"Steve coming on board will allow alliantgroup to build on our current success in businesses before federal and state tax authorities," said Shane Frank, alliantgroup COO.

"Steve is widely recognized across Washington as one of the premier figures in tax and is hugely respected in the tax community. We are extremely fortunate to have him joining our team at alliantgroup – but the real winners are all of the small and medium businesses with whom we work that will now benefit from Steve's knowledge and insight," said Dean Zerbe, National Managing Director for alliantgroup and former Senior Counsel and Tax Counsel for the Senate Finance Committee Chairman Senator Charles E. Grassley (R-IA).

alliantgroup's mission is one of education and awareness – we exist to help industry organizations, U.S. businesses, and the CPA firms that advise them, take full advantage of all federal and state tax credits, incentives, and deductions available to them. In addition, alliantgroup's Tax Controversy Services team assists businesses with federal and state tax authorities to achieve a positive outcome. Taxpayers involved in international and corporate tax questions with the IRS or state tax authorities benefit from alliantgroup's team of experts in law, procedure and litigation – as well as the wealth of experience of former IRS executives Mark Everson, Steve Miller, Kathy Petronchak and Walter Harris
