Construction Authority Issues Request For Proposals For Azusa To Montclair Project

RFP C1160: Azusa to Montclair Engineering and NEPA Support Services will advance design for the 12.3-mile light rail project and ready it for construction

MONROVIA, Calif., Jan. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority (Construction Authority) has issued Request for Proposals (RFP) C1160 Azusa to Montclair Engineering and NEPA Support Services, which calls for qualified teams to provide engineering and environmental consulting. Over the next few years, this contract will advance the design and engineering for the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension light rail project from Azusa to Montclair to a point where it will be ready for a design-build procurement.

"The construction now underway is on budget and on schedule, and the time is right to ready the next phase of the Foothill Gold Line for future construction," stated Construction Authority CEO, Habib F. Balian. "Through this effort, we will make the Azusa to Montclair segment shovel ready as we continue to seek out construction funding."

Proposals are due March 5, 2014, and a contract award is anticipated in April 2014. The selected team will work closely with Construction Authority staff to advance the design of the project to the level of "advanced conceptual engineering" (the point when it will be ready for a design-build contract), as well as conduct additional environmental analyses as necessary.

The 12.3-mile Azusa to Montclair project will extend light rail service from the APU/Citrus College Station in the city of Azusa (currently under construction) to the future stations in Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, Pomona, Claremont and Montclair. The project was environmentally cleared under CEQA in March 2013, when a Locally Preferred Alternative was selected.

Contractors interested in accessing the RFP should visit the contracting opportunities webpage on agency's website (www.foothillextension.org/contact_us/contracting-opportunities).

About the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension - The Foothill Extension is a $1.7 billion, 24-mile extension of the Metro Gold Line light rail system, being overseen by the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority, an independent transportation planning and construction agency created in 1998 by the California State Legislature. The project is planned in two segments – Pasadena to Azusa and Azusa to Montclair. The Pasadena to Azusa segment is fully funded by Los Angeles County's Measure R and is on schedule to be completed in September 2015, when it will be turned over to Metro for testing and pre-revenue service. Measure R is funding the majority of the cost associated with the upcoming advanced conceptual engineering and environmental work for the Azusa to Montclair segment (San Bernardino County will fund their portion of the work). The Construction Authority is working with Metro to seek the nearly $1 billion needed to construct the Azusa to Montclair project.
