This IDC study focuses on channel selection and vendor selection and satisfaction among Western European SMBs. Opinions and analysis contained in this study are based on IDC's European Vertical Markets Survey 2012, which was carried out in August-October 2012 among 1,603 organizations in Western Europe. The results analyzed in this study focus on 791 respondents in the SMB segment -- defined as organizations with 20-499 employees -- and are provided by company size (20-49, 50-99, 100-249, and 250-499 employees), top Western European country (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.K.), and vertical market (financial services, discrete manufacturing, process manufacturing, telecom/media, utilities/oil and gas, retail/wholesale, professional services/transport, government, and healthcare).

"Technology and IT delivery modes are evolving, and so are IT channels," said Serena Da Rold, program manager, IDC European Industry Solutions. "New technologies, particularly those that IDC refers to as the 3rd Platform -- social media, Big Data, mobile, and especially cloud -- have started to have an impact also on SMBs, changing their needs toward more complex solutions which require more support and value-added services from channel partners, and triggering a shift in IT sourcing toward system integrators, high-end VARs, and public cloud service providers. IDC's European Vertical Markets Survey confirms this trend."
