CHICAGO, Jan. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Tribune today announced the appointment of Kathy Clements as Chief Operating Officer for its broadcasting division, effective immediately. She joins Lynda King, who was appointed last week to a similar position with the division. Like King, Clements will report to Larry Wert, Tribune's President/Broadcast Media, and will assist him in overseeing the operation of the company's portfolio of 42 owned or operated television stations across the country.
Clements was formerly SVP/Media Operations for Belo Corp. and was responsible for the company's broadcast, cable, and digital business in 15 markets across the country, with direct oversight of nine television stations and all of their associated media platforms. She served as President/General Manager of WFAA-TV in Dallas, the nation's fifth-largest market, for ten years, from 1997 to 2007.
"Kathy's talent, leadership, and broad experience in broadcasting and digital media, is a great fit for our station group," said Wert. "She and Lynda complement each other perfectly and make a great team—I am looking forward to working with them both to find innovative ways of expanding our audience reach on and off the air."
Clements joined WFAA in 1984 as a sales account executive and held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility during the course of her career with Belo. She was named SVP/Media Operations in 2008 and among other duties, assumed responsibility for negotiating all group syndicated programming agreements, and oversaw news content, digital and social initiatives.
"Tribune has some of the strongest stations in the best markets in the country," said Clements. "This is a powerful platform for reaching people over the air and digitally, and we have a solid foundation from which to build share and ratings—there is a lot of opportunity for us ahead."
