Byer also announced that Kurt McMillan, currently NACD's vice president, business management, is leaving the organization in early March.  McMillan is departing to join The Fertilizer Institute as its vice president of member services and chief administrative officer. From September through the end of December, McMillan served as interim president of NACD.  He also led NACD's relocation to new office space in December.

"Kurt has been an integral part of the NACD senior staff for quite some time and will be missed," stated Byer.  "We wish him the very best moving forward."

As COO, Schofer will oversee NACD's human resources, finance and accounting teams, membership recruitment and retention programs and develop new strategic partnerships to support members in both services and cost-saving benefits. She will also continue to broaden the Association's education portfolio by enhancing existing programs, creating new courses and growing the Emerging Leaders program. In addition, Schofer will manage the Association's communication's team.

"Lucinda has been a proven and dedicated leader at NACD for nearly seven years.  Her efforts to drive membership growth and enhance benefits, improve NACD's brand, and increase our educational programs have been a tremendous asset to our organization.  She brings strong organizational and managerial skills as well as extensive knowledge of our Industry.  I'm confident Lucinda will continue to excel as she takes on the COO role," said Byer.

Schofer joined the NACD staff in March 2008. She has been responsible for the Marketing & Member Programs department handling the majority of dues and non-dues revenue generating programs and services. In addition, she has led all of NACD's meetings and communication initiatives. Prior to joining NACD, she worked for the American Chemistry Council (ACC) for 16 years, most recently as Director of Marketing. Lucinda holds a B.A. in Speech Communications from the University of Maryland.

It's easy to assume that your app will run on a fast and reliable network. The reality for your app's users, though, is often a slow, unreliable network with spotty coverage. What happens when the network doesn't work, or when the device is in airplane mode? You get unhappy, frustrated users. An offline-first app is an app that works, without error, when there is no network connection.
CIOs and those charged with running IT Operations are challenged to deliver secure, audited, and reliable compute environments for the applications and data for the business. Behind the scenes these tasks are often accomplished by following onerous time-consuming processes and often the management of these environments and processes will be outsourced to multiple IT service providers. In addition, the division of work is often siloed into traditional "towers" that are not well integrated for cro...

In most cases, it is convenient to have some human interaction with a web (micro-)service, no matter how small it is. A traditional approach would be to create an HTTP interface, where user requests will be dispatched and HTML/CSS pages must be served. This approach is indeed very traditional for a web site, but not really convenient for a web service, which is not intended to be good looking, 24x7 up and running and UX-optimized. Instead, talking to a web service in a chat-bot mode would be muc...

As enterprises work to take advantage of Big Data technologies, they frequently become distracted by product-level decisions.
