50% Year-over-Year Increase in Queries Handled by Leading Provider of Best-of-Breed Site Search Greatly Outpaces eCommerce Industry Sales Growth

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Global 'Software as a Service' (SaaS) site search provider SLI Systems (NZX:SLI) announced today that the number of search queries it handled for its global customers in December exceeded one billion, representing a 50% year-over-year increase.

SLI offers a variety of services in web site search, navigation, product suggestions, and user-generated SEO to help shoppers connect with the products they're most likely to buy, thereby driving increased sales on sites using the services. The fact that usage of these services is growing so strongly reflects an increased commitment among online retailers to optimize the customer experience on their sites.

"A billion is a big number. I'm proud of our technical team to have built the global infrastructure to scale for these volumes," said Shaun Ryan, CEO of SLI Systems. "As more retailers realize that search and related services can be significant drivers of revenue and traffic, we have enjoyed growth well beyond that of the overall eCommerce industry. This billion-query milestone reflects not only the growing number of merchants using our services but also adoption by larger retailers with higher traffic volumes.

"These retailers are turning to SLI Systems' technologies because they can recognize real improvements to online sales by making it easier for their customers to find what they're looking for,  along with driving more traffic from search engines," Ryan went on to say.

According to Ryan, the need for retail brands of all sizes to compete with giants like Amazon is more important than ever before. They increasingly need to leverage their industry expertise with technologies such as those provided by SLI Systems.

"Retailers that look to service providers to handle critical areas of their websites like search, shopping cart and check-out, mobile design, personalization and more are well-positioned to grow a loyal base of customers and revenue as well," he said.

WebRTC has had a real tough three or four years, and so have those working with it. Only a few short years ago, the development world were excited about WebRTC and proclaiming how awesome it was. Too often with compelling new technologies market participants become overly enamored with that attractiveness of the technology and neglect underlying business drivers. This tendency, what some call the “newest shiny object syndrome,” is understandable given that virtually all of us are heavily engaged in technology. But it is also mistaken. Without concrete business cases driving its deployment, IoT, like many other technologies before it, will fade into obscurity.
