Fat Injections Can Benefit Any Area of the Body, Says Houston Plastic Surgeon

Dr. Sam Sukkar Helps His Patients Gain a Natural, Soft Contour to Their Breasts, Body, or Face With Fat Grafting Techniques

HOUSTON, TX -- (Marketwired) -- 01/14/14 -- To create smooth, beautiful results for his Houston plastic surgery patients, Dr. Sam Sukkar says he often uses fat injections to enhance areas of the body that are less full or defined. He explains that fat grafting can help to improve the appearance of the face, breasts, or body. According to Dr. Sukkar, one of the most popular uses for this technique is to improve balance and contour among the features of the face. He says he frequently uses fat injections to create fuller lips for soft and natural results. Other popular facial fat grafting treatments at his practice include adding volume to the chin, cheeks, or jawbone, he says.

Dr. Sukkar says there are numerous other uses for fat injections. He explains that, aside from facial treatments, he often uses fat injections to complete a buttock enhancement procedure. He says the fat grafting technique he uses can fill out areas that are flatter, helping to create a rounder, more attractive shape to the buttocks.

In a recent blog post on Dr. Sukkar's website, titled "Get Natural Results With Fat Injections," Dr. Sukkar mentions a recent rise in popularity for fat injections used in conjunction with breast enhancement surgeries. He explains that in areas where the tissues are thin, the implant can occasionally show through, creating a rippling effect. Dr. Sukkar says fat injections strategically placed in these areas can help to camouflage this effect. He also notes that fat grafting can be beneficial for post-mastectomy breast cancer patients who are seeking a breast reconstruction. He explains that the fat injections can help during the reconstruction, creating a smoother contour with a more realistic look and feel.

Aside from the obvious benefits of a smoother and softer shape to the body, face, or breasts, Dr. Sukkar says there are many other benefits to fat grafting. He explains that, in order to harvest the fat for the injections, he must first remove fat from another area of the patient's body using liposuction. He says most patients appreciate the added benefit of fat reduction in an area affected by excess fat pockets. After the harvested fat has been prepared for the treatment, Dr. Sukkar adds it in the desired areas using a micrografting technique, which involves several small injections in the target area. Dr. Sukkar notes that because fat injections use the patient's own tissue, as opposed to a foreign material, there is typically very little risk involved with the procedure.

Dr. Sukkar says patients seeking a more defined silhouette from fat injections can expect a recovery period of approximately 7-10 days. He advises most patients to return for follow-up treatments generally six months or one year after the initial fat grafting procedure in order to help improve results. Dr. Sukkar recommends fat injections for enhanced volume or contour anywhere on the body, but stresses the importance of finding a board-certified plastic surgeon who is well-trained and experienced in the technique.
