Perforce Integrates Commons™ with Dropbox for Best-in-Class Document Collaboration

Perforce Software Extends Its Powerful Document Versioning Solution to Leverage Dropbox's Industry-Leading File-Sharing Capabilities

WOKINGHAM, UK (January 14, 2014) - Perforce Software today announced the integration of its document collaboration platform, Perforce Commons™, with Dropbox, the industry's leading file-sharing tool. Perforce customers using Commons to store and manage the versions of their documents can now upload files directly into Dropbox, which syncs content across all the devices associated with a customer account. Combining the two technologies allows users to share files via Dropbox while utilising Commons' robust collaboration and version control capabilities.

Built on the versioning engine used by the world's most innovative companies, Commons extends Perforce enterprise version management to less technical staff, who can now manage their documents and other files in the same shared repository that the developers use for code and artists use for graphics. Commons enables organisations to maintain a single source of truth for all their assets—a fundamental requirement for the emerging software development methodology of Continuous Delivery.

"We've tried lots of document management solutions but found that they're mostly social media and communication platforms with document collaboration tacked on as an afterthought. That's not good enough for us," said Ryan Kelly, project manager at Photizo Group. "We want a collaboration platform where communication and workflow are focused on the document itself. Nothing we tried was working for us until we found Commons."

Free for 20 Users
All Perforce products are free for up to 20 users—including access to Perforce's technical support. Perforce Commons is available as both an on premise solution and a cloud service. It takes only minutes to set up a Commons Cloud team at commons.perforce.net. To download the on premise edition of Commons, visit www.perforce.com.

"It's becoming rare for document reviews and revisions to take place exclusively at desktops connected to a server. Thanks to advanced file-sharing tools like Dropbox, users propagate their evolving documents to any number of devices and share them with their peers," said Christopher Seiwald, founder and CEO of Perforce. "That's why our integration with Dropbox is so helpful. Now our customers can easily share files across their devices while still reaping in the benefits of our enterprise version management."

Actian Corporation has announced the latest version of the Actian Vector in Hadoop (VectorH) database, generally available at the end of July. VectorH is based on the same query engine that powers Actian Vector, which recently doubled the TPC-H benchmark record for non-clustered systems at the 3000GB scale factor (see tpc.org/3323). The ability to easily ingest information from different data sources and rapidly develop queries to make better business decisions is becoming increasingly importan...
To leverage Continuous Delivery, enterprises must consider impacts that span functional silos, as well as applications that touch older, slower moving components. Managing the many dependencies can cause slowdowns. See how to achieve continuous delivery in the enterprise.
Is the ongoing quest for agility in the data center forcing you to evaluate how to be a part of infrastructure automation efforts? As organizations evolve toward bimodal IT operations, they are embracing new service delivery models and leveraging virtualization to increase infrastructure agility. Therefore, the network must evolve in parallel to become equally agile. Read this essential piece of Gartner research for recommendations on achieving greater agility.
Today we can collect lots and lots of performance data. We build beautiful dashboards and even have fancy query languages to access and transform the data. Still performance data is a secret language only a couple of people understand. The more business becomes digital the more stakeholders are interested in this data including how it relates to business. Some of these people have never used a monitoring tool before. They have a question on their mind like “How is my application doing” but no id...

To paraphrase someone famous, "The definition of insanity is to do something the same way over and over again and expect a different result". Humans are creatures of habit and when it comes to storage, old habits die hard. Why do we continue to put our faith in legacy storage providers when they haven't invented anything new in decades. Sure, they re-badge their products every couple of years to make their messaging look modern, but ultimately, it's the same old stuff with a new coat of lipsti...
