Elderly Victim of Investment Fraud in Ohio Wins Jury Verdict, According to Meyer Wilson LPA

An Ohio jury awarded $125,000 to an 83-year-old client of the investment fraud law firm Meyer Wilson

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Jan. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A state court jury in Columbus, Ohio, unanimously awarded a full recovery under Ohio's securities laws to an elderly client represented by the law firm of Meyer Wilson, LPA (Case No. 13-CV-000287, Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, Columbus).

According to attorney David P. Meyer, the managing principal of Meyer Wilson, "Our client lost her entire life savings in this investment scam and we are honored to have the opportunity to fight to recover her hard-earned money."

Meyer Wilson attorney Courtney M. Yeager, who represented the investor at the trial, explained that because the company that actually sold the investment filed bankruptcy several years ago, the trial focused on a member of the former company's board of directors for "aiding" in the company's fraud. Under Ohio's securities laws, anyone who participated in or aided the company "in any way" in committing the fraud is liable for the full amount of the investment loss. Columbus attorney John Camillus tried the case with Ms. Yeager.

"This is an important win for individual investors in the state of Ohio," states Meyer, "because it sends a clear message to executives and agents of companies that sell fraudulent securities to Ohio individuals that they cannot escape responsibility simply by closing the doors and wiping their hands of the company's mess."
