NTP Software Precision Tiering named Product of the Year Finalist by Storage magazine and SearchStorage.com

NASHUA, N.H., Jan. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- NTP Software®, the worldwide leader in File Data Management, today announced that its Precision Tiering™ software has been named a finalist for the annual Product of the Year award in the enterprise storage system software category by Storage magazine and SearchStorage.com.

Storage magazine and SearchStorage.com praised Precision Tiering for enabling automated policy-driven data migration, manual user-driven movement or a combination of both, and features such as event-based tiering, any source to any destination migration (CIFS or NFS), damaged metadata correction and split data migrations to separate locations.

Enterprises use Precision Tiering to reduce costs, address compliance issues, and categorize files, properly managing them, and moving the right data to the most appropriate storage tier. While most archival solutions require expensive, repeated scans of the entire file system, Precision Tiering offers real-time event- and policy-driven management as alternatives. Precision Tiering further distinguishes itself by capturing all aspects of the files it manages, including provenance, alternate streams, enhanced metadata, and security information. This means that files tiered with Precision Tiering remain secure and can be accessed independent of the state of their original hosts or even if those systems no longer exist.

"Streamlining data management is on the shortlist of every enterprise IT manager, and Precision Tiering is used to both optimize resources and reduce long-term costs," said Bruce Backa, CEO of NTP Software. "While budgets remain flat, organizations are challenged to keep up with growing capacity demands, and Precision Tiering is addressing these market realities by dramatically improving the economics of data movement."

The Storage magazine/SearchStorage.com 2013 Products of the Year competition spans a wide range of technologies, including flash-based caching, storage virtualization, software-defined storage, cloud storage and performance optimization. Awards are judged by the editorial staff in conjunction with a team of users, industry experts and analysts. The awards honor the best storage products for use by the enterprise and are based on innovation, performance, ease of integration, ease of use and management and value.
