Bid-on-.BID: Famous Four Media announces .BID reservation program

Monday, 20 January 2014, Gibraltar: In December 2013, Famous Four Media signed its first Registry Agreement for its .BID generic Top Level Domain (gTLD) on behalf of the Registry operator. This momentous moment for one of the largest new gTLD registries now sets in motion a chain of events that will culminate in the launch of the .BID Registry.

In order to allow Registrants (anyone including individuals, corporations, clubs, charities and others) the chance to reserve a cool, funky and potentially valuable .BID domain name at the normal registration price, Famous Four Media has launched a .BID reservation program.

The .BID Reservation program is split into two phases: Bid-on-.BID and First-Come-First-Served (FCFS)

Bid-on-.BID
When? From 14:00 UTC on 20th January 2014 until 10:00 UTC on 14th February 2014

Registrants are invited to submit their bids for .BID second level domains through participating ICANN accredited Registrars. The minimum bid will be just $20.00. Reservations at the standard retail price (ask your Registrar for details) will also be accepted on a FCFS basis BUT if another registration is received at a higher bid price then it will take precedence.

First Come First Served
When? From 14:00 UTC on 19th February 2014 until the end of Sunrise Period

Famous Four Media will accept reservations, on a first come first served basis, at the standard retail price (ask your registrar for details). No further Bid-on-.BID reservations will be accepted during this phase.

To make things even more exciting!
Famous Four Media is releasing 1,200 high value domain names during Bid-on-.BID phase of the reservation program, with an estimated value of USD750,000, and is making them available from just USD19.98. For example this means that registrants could secure automatic.bid or 1dollar.bid for under $20!

Notes:

  • Registrants should contact their domain name registrars in order to submit a Bid-on-.BID.
  • All reservations are subject to the Sunrise registrations and the Trademark Claims Period and second level domain names will resolve as soon as permitted.
  • Designated premium names will not be available in the .BID reservation program.

The Jevons Paradox suggests that when technological advances increase efficiency of a resource, it results in an overall increase in consumption. Writing on the increased use of coal as a result of technological improvements, 19th-century economist William Stanley Jevons found that these improvements led to the development of new ways to utilize coal. In his session at 19th Cloud Expo, Mark Thiele, Chief Strategy Officer for Apcera, will compare the Jevons Paradox to modern-day enterprise IT, e...

More and more companies are looking to microservices as an architectural pattern for breaking apart applications into more manageable pieces so that agile teams can deliver new features quicker and more effectively. What this pattern has done more than anything to date is spark organizational transformations, setting the foundation for future application development.
