Most Popular Tech Trends in 2014

What Should We Wait for in 2014?

Trendwatching, Gartner, Euromonitor, researchers from Ericsson ConsumerLab, Forbes magazine and other experts have recently presented their view on the trends in the new 2014 year. And today we'll join the best variants in one place.

Trend #1. The human body as a key

In 2014 the services and devices that use biometric data for the authorization will be very popular among consumers. Ericsson study shows that 52% of smartphone owners want to replace passwords with their fingerprints, and 48% agreed to record images of their iris. 74% of mobile users who are going to change their gadgets in 2014 would like to get a smartphone or tablet with biometric features.

Trend #2. Responsibility for purchasing replaces unrestrained consumption

During the global economic crisis, the world has become more intolerant to consumerism. People from Western Europe, the USA Canada and other developed countries have become more aware of the responsibility for the future of the planet. "Consumer Society" is a negative notion today. Now to consume more and more is a sign rather bad taste, not of power and status. The responsibility for purchases is replacing consumption ideas. A good example of this trend is Tesla eletromobiles. Today, they are both a symbol of progressiveness, innovation and care for the environment - and success. Purchase of this car  is a signal to society that its owner is willing to invest not in luxury, but in the progress and innovation .

Trend #3. 3D-printing against mass production

Analysts at Gartner predict that the market for devices for 3D-printing in 2014 will grow by 75%, and in 2015 - by 200%. Experts say that this interest in the printing capabilities of physical objects will grow exponentially. «3D-printing is a real, viable and cost-effective way to reduce the cost of production and logistics," - say at Gartner. According to them, in a few years people will increasingly buy not ready-made products in the supermarkets, but only the layout drawings for 3D-printers. And print these things from new materials right at home.

Trend #4. Real time data against the traditional marketing tools

In 2014 in the United States virtually all children who have reached adulthood will have a long experience of working with computers and new technologies. For these people, the use of hundreds of services and applications on their smartphones is common. It gives new opportunities to meet the users' needs and reduces the demand for marketers services. Real time data collecting is replacing traditional marketing tools. One of examples is the CheckinDJ application, which studies the users' musical preferences. The service is connected to a bar or cafe where the music in automatically selected, the music that is best suited for the majority of users who are currently in. The playlist changes happens in real time.

Trend #5. Big Data instead of the previous statistics tools

In 2014 the industry experts expect the explosive growth of "wearable technology." People will use mini devices and sensors to gather data about themselves: health, habits, lifestyle, etc. Interest to Quantified Self technology will grow rapidly. An example of such technology is a personal electroencephalograph Melon, which is worn on the head and scans the brain's electrical activity. Its mission is to analyze the circumstances under which the human brain is able to concentrate better on the task, and how it reacts to the weather, time of day, and other environmental factors.
