Belden Shares Substation Communications Best Practices at DistribuTECH 2014

Belden Inc. (NYSE: BDC), a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, will share the latest in substation automation at the DistribuTECH Conference & Exhibition in San Antonio from Jan. 28-30. Belden’s power transmission and distribution, smart grid, and security experts will be on hand to offer practical advice and solutions for substation automation and control systems.

Now, the majority need help understanding substation automation, as well as smart grid design and deployment,” said Mike Miclot, vice president of marketing at Belden. “At events like DistribuTECH, we can assist companies with what to do next—whether they have no automation in place and are just getting started, or they’re more advanced and looking to build a substation of the future.”

For companies with a legacy system in place, Belden security expert Eric Byres will co-present a portion of the event’s Substation Integration and Automation track titled “Legacy System Migration Best Practices: A Checklist for Designing and Deploying a Secure Industrial Ethernet Communications System.” The presentation will take place on Thursday, Jan. 30, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, and Byres will be joined by communications infrastructure expert Mike Trayler, a development manager with Raymar Telenetics.

In addition to the presentation, Belden and its team of specialists will be available for consultations and product demonstrations at booth 3055. The booth will feature:

  • A complete range of substation communications infrastructure products—from copper and fiber cabling and GarrettCom and Hirschmann routers and switches, to wireless access points and network management software.
  • Security capabilities for both old and new automation systems, including the new EAGLE One industrial security router, Belden’s latest global product rollout. This versatile device expands Belden’s existing EAGLE platform, providing all-around network protection and featuring ruggedized enhancements for the energy industry.
  • Redundancy solutions that meet the latest IEC 62439 standard, including high-availability seamless redundancy (HSR) and parallel redundancy protocol (PRP).

At DistribuTECH, the utility industry’s leading transmission and distribution event, Belden will help attendees take a step back to assess what they have and where they’re at. With this approach, companies can determine the practical next steps to get them where they need to go.
