Joint Industry Guide (JIG) 101 Transitions to New Material Declaration Standard

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, DIGITALEUROPE, and the Japanese Green Procurement Survey Standardization Initiative (JGPSSI) today announced that the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard IEC 62474 is now the recommended electrotechnical industry’s material declaration standard. The existing Joint Industry Guide (JIG) is several years out of date with global regulations and, consequently, should be considered officially obsolete.

The IEC 62474 standard refers to an associated IEC database, which hosts the IEC 62474 declarable substance list and the electronic data exchange schema. The IEC database is maintained twice a year by the IEC 62474 Validation Team to ensure it is current with changing global electronic industry reporting requirements. The IEC database is accessible free of charge at, and the standard is available for purchase at the IEC Webstore.

JEDEC is the leading developer of standards for the solid-state industry. Almost 3,300 participants, appointed by some 295 companies work together in 50 JEDEC committees to meet the needs of every segment of the industry, manufacturers and consumers alike. The publications and standards that they generate are accepted throughout the world. All JEDEC standards are available online, at no charge.


The Japan Green Procurement Survey Standardization Initiative (JGPSSI) was a voluntary organization inaugurated in January 2001 for the purpose of standardizing substances contained in parts and materials of equipment in electrical and electronic products through effective survey methods. In January 2006, JGPSSI implemented the JIG-101 as a guideline for common surveys on the material composition of electric and electronic equipment. Accompanying this, JGPSSI prescribed a survey and response format, released it as the Survey and Response tool (Ver.4) complying with the JIG-101, and has been making efforts to make surveys common since then. However, with the JIG-101 Ed 4.1 being the final edition, future revisions to the chemical substances list is to be carried over into the IEC 62474 international standards, which were published in March 2012. Based on this development, the JGPSSI has dissolved into a new organization VT62474 Japanese mirror committee as of the end of May 2012.
