Carboline Introduces Carbotherm 551; the Next Generation of Thin-Film Insulative Coatings

ST. LOUIS, Jan. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Carboline Company is pleased to announce the release of Carbotherm 551 an advanced next generation insulative coating. This water-based epoxy insulative coating has multiple uses from protecting workers from burns on hot surfaces to thermal insulation. It dramatically reduces the effects of solar radiation on operating vessels and storage tanks and reduces heat built up which can otherwise result in evaporative emissions from storage tanks containing hydrocarbon or other cargoes.

"Carbotherm 551 is superior over other water-based insulative coatings currently on the market," said Doug Moore, VP of Global Marketing at Carboline. "Being an epoxy, Carbotherm 551 has far superior physical properties than currently available acrylic-based formulations, thus providing far more durability for industrial environments. It can be applied faster and with fewer coats than acrylics which appeals to both the contractor who installs it and the owner who benefits from its thermal performance."

Carbotherm 551 can provide up to 60% energy efficiency when applied at only 4-6 mm. In a single coat, it can protect against heat caused by solar radiation for pressure vessels, hydrocarbon storage tanks, LP tanks, etc. Owners can reduce their solvent (carbon) emissions on storage tanks by keeping skin temperatures cooler.
