Teardown of Qualcomm Toq Smartwatch Finds Cypress TrueTouch Capacitive Touchscreen Controller

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq: CY), the market leader in capacitive touch-sensing, today announced TechInsight’s Teardown.com has found that a Cypress TrueTouch® controller drives the touchscreen of the Qualcomm Toq smartwatch. The Qualcomm Toq teardown survey report identifies the Cypress TMA140 controller in the ToqSW1 model, noting its fast, accurate touchscreen navigation. The ToqSW1 can be linked to a smartphone via Bluetooth, adding the ability to receive notifications and other content to standard watch functionality.

“Our research shows Cypress’s presence within wearable technology devices is increasing,” said Joel Martin, General Manager of TechInsights Teardown.com. “Their touchscreen controller, the TMA140 or more specifically the CY8CTMA140, earned the design win for Capacitive Touchscreen Controller within TechInsights Teardown.com’s recently published Qualcomm Toq report. We believe Qualcomm chose Cypress’s solution given the company’s strong focus on touch accuracy and responsiveness combined with low power consumption.”

“Displays are a major focus for the emerging Internet of Things and wearables, and we are pleased to have our TrueTouch touchscreen technology enabling dynamic user interfaces for these innovative products,” said Joe Montalbo, vice president of the TrueTouch Business Unit at Cypress. “TrueTouch is a natural fit for wearable electronics, given its best-in-class water resistance, noise immunity and low power consumption.”
