BOSTON, Jan. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Wayfair, the largest online retailer of home furnishings and decor, today appointed Christiane Lemieux as Executive Creative Director. In her new role, Lemieux, previously Founder and Creative Director of DwellStudio, will provide creative vision and counsel across the e-commerce leader's growing portfolio of home brands including Wayfair.com, AllModern, Joss & Main and DwellStudio. "Christiane has an amazing eye for home design and a deep understanding of the home furnishings industry," said Niraj Shah, CEO and co-founder of Wayfair. "As an entrepreneur, and artist, Christiane will drive the creative direction of our home brands from a unique vantage point. She is passionate about home and offers a creative vision for the company that transcends any one style or design aesthetic."

Lemieux began her career in fashion working as a fabric assistant for Isaac Mizrahi and then as an assistant designer of women's woven clothing, fabric design and product development for the Gap. Wooed by the world of home furnishings, she took a position as Design Director with Portico, a New York-based home company, and fell in love with the permanence and craftsmanship of home design.

In 2000, Lemieux launched DwellStudio, a lifestyle retail brand known for groundbreaking design and impeccable quality in modern home furnishings. Wayfair acquired DwellStudio in August 2013 and welcomed Lemieux to the company's leadership team where she continued to oversee DwellStudio.

"Wayfair is breaking new ground with the development of Internet based home lifestyle brands," added Lemieux. "The transition of DwellStudio into the Wayfair family has been an eye opening experience to the infinite possibilities that e-commerce brings to the home furnishings world. I am thrilled to be a part of this exciting movement to create and hone lifestyle brands across a spectrum of design aesthetics. It's the ultimate exercise in creativity as we bring great home design and endless options to the market in a completely new way."

A native of Ottawa, Canada, Lemieux is a graduate of Queen's University in Kingston, Canada and Parsons School of Design in New York. In 2012, Lemieux was named a Most Powerful Women Entrepreneur by Fortune. She currently serves on the boards of Every Mother Counts and the Manhattan Children's Museum.

In most cases, it is convenient to have some human interaction with a web (micro-)service, no matter how small it is. A traditional approach would be to create an HTTP interface, where user requests will be dispatched and HTML/CSS pages must be served. This approach is indeed very traditional for a web site, but not really convenient for a web service, which is not intended to be good looking, 24x7 up and running and UX-optimized. Instead, talking to a web service in a chat-bot mode would be muc...

What happens when the network doesn't work, or when the device is in airplane mode? You get unhappy, frustrated users. An offline-first app is an app that works, without error, when there is no network connection.
