First Bancorp of Indiana, Inc. Announces Financial Results

EVANSVILLE, IN -- (Marketwired) -- 01/24/14 -- First Bancorp of Indiana, Inc., (OTCBB: FBPI), the holding company for First Federal Savings Bank, reported earnings of $321,000 for the quarter ended December 31, 2013, compared to net income of $349,000 in the same quarter last year. The quarter-over-quarter change was attributed largely to higher overhead expenses and reduced noninterest income, particularly gains from the sale of loans. These items were partially offset by a small increase in net interest income. Additionally, improving asset quality reduced the need for additional provisions for loan losses.

Net interest income for the six months ended December 31, 2013, improved 2.5% from the same period last fiscal year as a decrease in the cost of funds more than offset lower interest revenue. During the past year net loans grew 7.0% to help mitigate margin compression related to the low interest rate environment. Noninterest income declined 10.2% between the six-month periods due to reduced gains from the sale of loans as far fewer borrowers sought to refinance their mortgage loans. Finally, costs associated with a new operations center, a new branch facility in Petersburg, Indiana, and additional staffing needs were largely responsible for the 3.7% increase in noninterest expenses.

At approximately 8.7%, First Federal's tier one capital ratio was well in excess of the five percent regulatory standard for "well-capitalized" financial institutions. The bank's other capital measurements also continue to comfortably exceed "well-capitalized" standards. In addition, First Bancorp paid a dividend of 15.5 cents per outstanding share for the 23rd consecutive quarter.

As-a-service models offer huge opportunities, but also complicate security. It may seem that the easiest way to migrate to a new architectural model is to let others, experts in their field, do the work. This has given rise to many as-a-service models throughout the industry and across the entire technology stack, from software to infrastructure. While this has unlocked huge opportunities to accelerate the deployment of new capabilities or increase economic efficiencies within an organization, i...
Culture is the most important ingredient of DevOps. The challenge for most organizations is defining and communicating a vision of beneficial DevOps culture for their organizations, and then facilitating the changes needed to achieve that. Often this comes down to an ability to provide true leadership. As a CIO, are your direct reports IT managers or are they IT leaders? The hard truth is that many IT managers have risen through the ranks based on their technical skills, not their leadership ab...

When it comes to IoT in the enterprise, namely the commercial building and hospitality markets, a benefit not getting the attention it deserves is energy efficiency, and IoT’s direct impact on a cleaner, greener environment when installed in smart buildings. There didn't exist a 'top down' approach that can manage and monitor the way a Smart Buildi...

Mobile messaging has been a popular communication channel for more than 20 years. Since then, the technology has evolved immensely, from both a technology standpoint, and in our everyday uses for it. Originally used for person-to-person (P2P) communication, i.e., Sally sends a text...
