Bytemark Launches First Citywide Mobile Ticketing Application in Austin, Texas

Bytemark, a pioneer in mobile ticketing, today announced the launch of its first citywide mobile ticketing application with Central Texas’ regional public transportation provider, Capital Metro. Servicing approximately 33 million trips every year, Capital Metro has launched this app as part of its new, high-tech MetroRapid service ahead of SXSW this March.

The free CapMetro App utilizes Bytemark’s patented mobile ticketing solution, which enables riders to purchase and store transit passes on their mobile devices. To use passes, riders simply show their smartphone screen to bus operators or scan the on-screen barcode upon boarding the new MetroRapid vehicles. The app is available for Apple iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices and also offers real-time arrival information, a trip planner and the latest service advisories.

Micah Bergdale, CEO of Bytemark, said: “Bytemark is thrilled to be launching its first citywide mobile ticketing application with Capital Metro. Austin is an innovative, forward-thinking city and we are confident that riders will find the CapMetro App convenient and easy to use. With SXSW around the corner, we hope the app will encourage visitors to take public transportation by making it more accessible.”

Joe Iannello, Chief Information Officer at Capital Metro, commented: "Capital Metro is delighted to work with Bytemark on this exciting new mobile ticketing app that will provide many additional high-tech capabilities to our customers. Bytemark is a great partner and has extensive experience with this leading edge technology."

CapMetroApp Features:

  • “Smart Tile Home Screen” - Provides users with the most relevant content based on their settings and usage history.
  • Meets all Payment Card Industry security standards and accepts Discover Card, Visa, MasterCard and American Express payments.
  • Includes Capital Metro’s mobile trip planner, service alerts, real-time arrival information, maps and schedules.
  • Option to purchase multiple passes on one device for groups traveling together.
  • Embedded security to cut down on fare evasion and provide cost savings to Capital Metro.
  • The Virtual Visually Validated (V3) ticket screen has multiple built-in security features to ensure authenticity.

In addition to the mobile application, Bytemark is providing a state-of-the-art user management platform solution and backend reporting system to Capital Metro. This will enable Capital Metro administrators to better manage transit offerings and meet customers’ needs.

"When we talk about cloud without compromise what we're talking about is that when people think about 'I need the flexibility of the cloud' - it's the ability to create applications and run them in a cloud environment that's far more flexible,” explained Matthew Finnie, CTO of Interoute, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at 20th Cloud Expo, held June 6-8, 2017, at the Javits Center in New York City, NY.
IoT solutions exploit operational data generated by Internet-connected smart “things” for the purpose of gaining operational insight and producing “better outcomes” (for example, create new business models, eliminate unscheduled maintenance, etc.). The explosive proliferation of IoT solutions will result in an exponential growth in the volume of IoT data, precipitating significant Information Governance issues: who owns the IoT data, what are the rights/duties of IoT solutions adopters towards t...
Wooed by the promise of faster innovation, lower TCO, and greater agility, businesses of every shape and size have embraced the cloud at every layer of the IT stack – from apps to file sharing to infrastructure. The typical organization currently uses more than a dozen sanctioned cloud apps and will shift more than half of all workloads to the cloud by 2018. Such cloud investments have delivered measurable benefits. But they’ve also resulted in some unintended side-effects: complexity and risk. ...
It is ironic, but perhaps not unexpected, that many organizations who want the benefits of using an Agile approach to deliver software use a waterfall approach to adopting Agile practices: they form plans, they set milestones, and they measure progress by how many teams they have engaged. Old habits die hard, but like most waterfall software projects, most waterfall-style Agile adoption efforts fail to produce the results desired. The problem is that to get the results they want, they have to ch...
With the introduction of IoT and Smart Living in every aspect of our lives, one question has become relevant: What are the security implications? To answer this, first we have to look and explore the security models of the technologies that IoT is founded upon. When growing capacity and power in the data center, the architectural trade-offs between server scale-up vs. scale-out continue to be debated. Both approaches are valid: scale-out adds multiple, smaller servers running in a distributed computing model, while scale-up adds fewer, more powerful servers that are capable of running larger workloads. It’s worth noting that there are additional, unique advantages that scale-up architectures offer. One big advantage is large memory and compute capacity...
