IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- NT OBJECTives, Inc., provider of the most automated, comprehensive and accurate web application security solutions, recently announced a new release of its dynamic application security testing solution, NTOSpider. This update will allow NTOSpider to integrate with browser automation tool, Selenium, to help companies bridge the gap between software development and security testing.
Selenium is often used by software development and quality assurance (QA) teams to automate the security testing of web applications, enabling users to record a series of events and to analyze the results. With this integration, security teams can automatically detect security defects earlier in the software development lifecycle, such as during the nightly build process, improving enterprise web security with minimal additional costs and without supplementary assistance from developers and/or QA teams.
In regard to web applications and security testing, one of the main challenges is to bridge the security divide between the software development/QA teams and security teams. While most individuals agree that security defects should be detected early, most security professionals are experts in security and are generally less familiar with the applications; additionally, the inverse is also true, as QA teams are application experts, and are usually not familiar with web application security.
"Security, software development and QA teams have been trying to find an effective way to integrate security testing earlier in the development lifecycle, when security defects are less costly to fix," said Dan Kuykendall, co-CEO and CTO of NT OBJECTives, Inc. "By implementing the execution of Selenium scripts to our comprehensive web application security scanning solution, we can supply our clients with maximum coverage on all applications, with a minimal increase in cost and without additional work from developers or QA. It's a win all around."
In addition to improving web application security testing for software development/QA and security teams, NTOSpider's integration with Selenium can also be used to automate complex authentication solutions, as well as specific application workflows, such as shopping cart sequences. It supports the following two methods of Selenium integration:
- It executes the Selenium script directly, while NTOSpider is running, to avoid working from a possibly expired session.
- It imports the output of a previously-executed script, expediting the testing process.
NT OBJECTives, Inc. has also released a new whitepaper available for download, entitled, "The Case for Integrating Selenium and Application Security Testing," featuring additional information regarding the benefits of integrating application scanners with Selenium. The whitepaper also compares two scenarios describing how NTOSpider can "piggy-back" on the application knowledge built into Selenium.

When building large, cloud-based applications that operate at a high scale, it’s important to maintain a high availability and resilience to failures. In order to do that, you must be tolerant of failures, even in light of failures in other areas of your application. “Fly two mistakes high” is an old adage in the radio control airplane hobby. It means, fly high enough so that if you make a mistake, you can continue flying with room to still make mistakes. In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, Lee A...

Cognitive Computing is becoming the foundation for a new generation of solutions that have the potential to transform business. Unlike traditional approaches to building solutions, a cognitive computing approach allows the data to help determine the way applications are designed. This contrasts with conventional software development that begins with defining logic based on the current way a business operates. In her session at 18th Cloud Expo, Judith S. As software becomes more and more complex, we, as software developers, have been splitting up our code into smaller and smaller components. This is also true for the environment in which we run our code: going from bare metal, to VMs to the modern-day Cloud Native world of containers, schedulers and micro services. While we have figured out how to run containerized applications in the cloud using schedulers, we've yet to come up with a good solution to bridge the gap between getting your contain...
