29 January 2014 - Accent Media Limited, a British company currently applying to operate the new top level web domain for online ticket sales, today announced the appointment of industry veteran Tommy Higgins as Chairman.
Accent Media, led by Steve Machin, seeks to create a new trusted domain to give consumers peace of mind when purchasing tickets. The new 'tickets' domain will be one of hundreds of new suffixes launched over the next few years as alternatives to the .com or .co.uk extensions currently associated with website addresses. The company plans to make new 'tickets' internet addresses available only to vetted organisations which meet agreed standards.
Tommy Higgins began his career in the music industry in Ireland in the 1970's, where he set up a chain of successful retail music stores. He followed this success with a joint venture to bring the HMV retail brand to Ireland and went on to establish Ireland's first computerised nationwide ticketing company, Ticketshop, which merged with Ticketmaster in 1997 to become Ticketmaster Ireland. Tommy held a number of senior roles within Ticketmaster, including Group Managing Director of UK & Ireland for Ticketmaster and Executive Vice President of Ticketmaster Europe.
"With the ticket sector rapidly developing to keep up with the connected generation of consumers it has never been more necessary for company like Accent Media to step in and help the industry protect customers," said Tommy Higgins. "I'm very pleased to join the team during such an important stage in its quest to secure the 'tickets' domain. The future of the ticket and events industry depends on a safe pair of hands and I believe we are the best company to champion the safety of buyers and ultimately improve the online customer experience."
Accent Media founder Steve Machin added, "The challenges facing the ticket industry continue to evolve. On the cusp of a new internet era, the ability of consumers to easily identify legitimate and trusted sites in a number of sectors is paramount. Tommy brings with him a wealth of experience across the global ticketing and wider entertainment industry. That will be instrumental in steering our proposition; to bring a safe environment, which can be communicated simply and consistently, to ticket buyers worldwide."

In 2011-12 more than 2 million people were estimated to have fallen victim to online ticketing fraud, on average losing £406, at a total cost to the UK of £864 million. (National Fraud Intelligence Bureau May 2012)
Research carried out in September 2009 by the UK Office of Fair Trading identified that 1 in 5 people know of someone who has bought tickets from a fake ticketing website.
The global challenge of online ticketing fraud extends to major global sporting events such as the Olympics. For example, the fraudulent ticketing site www.beijingticketing.com sold over USD 50m of non-existent tickets

In addition to all the benefits, IoT is also bringing new kind of customer experience challenges - cars that unlock themselves, thermostats turning houses into saunas and baby video monitors broadcasting over the internet. This list can only increase because while IoT services should be intuitive and simple to use, the delivery ecosystem is a myriad of potential problems as IoT explodes complexity. So finding a performance issue is like finding the proverbial needle in the haystack.
